Buying an iPad on Craig's list. How do I make sure it's not stolen?

The only way I'd buy used is is I saw the person erase and reset as new and I could set up the iPad with my Apple ID. Also the person would have to have a purchase receit. I'd avoid an exceptional deal on Craigslist like the plague and only buy new at the Apple Store.

One of the things that drives me nuts bout Apple is that since the iPhone was the first iOS device (iOS stands for iPhone operating system) much of their support and kb articles mention the phone specifically, but much of that same information applies to all iOS devices. The reason for my mini "rant" is this..

Does this apply to an iPad as well as the iPhone?

I gave the link in the article a try and got the below message. Maybe because I switched to iCloud Drive or maybe I need to use a computer.

There is no universal database of stolen iPads. You can check the status of

Activation Lock by using Apple's newly released tool: https://www.icloud.com/activationlock/

Bob, I can't see your screenshot. But if you got this Browser Unsupported message you need to use a computer or an iOS browser like iCab Mobile that can identify as a desktop browser.

Jive at it's best, I can't see your screenshots either. I get a frowning iCloud that says my browser isn't supported try Safari, Firefox or Internet Explorer.

Excellent link @Demo. I'm sure this will be a very useful tool. I'm checking my devices now to make sure they aren't "stolen". 😝

EDIT: I can see Bob's screenshots inline but Demo's don't show, even when clicking on the links to them (Firefox 32.0.3 on Mavericks 10.9.5)

In the past few months, I've had numerous issues in this forum...I'm logged in, then I'm immediately shown as logged out when trying to reply was a biggie. Another was trying to log in and immediately directed to the Apple page to create a new account. Yesterday I wiped out all my cookies and that seems to have cleared my issues (so far). You may want to give it a shot.

The users here are not sending you any messages...they are sent by the forum software. You need to unsubscribe from the topic to stop the messages. I believe there is a link in the messages you are getting to unsubscribe from the topic. There is also a setting in your profile to stop this.

At the top of the page & while logged in, click on your username. In the drop-down window, select Preferences. Turn both email preferences OFF.

EDIT: Also the blue checkmark that Bob mentioned above.

What blue check mark ? I can't see anything that fits the description
