I have a 13" 2012 Macbook Air and want to buy the best monitor I can for my budget, which is around £175. It only has a lightning adaptor.
I've just started a 2 year masters degree and will be doing a lot of working from home, so would like the best quality/size I can afford.
Any personal recommendations?

Actually it's called a Thunderbolt port, and you can use any monitor with a Thunderbolt input. You can also purchase an inexpensive Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter, and use any monitor with an HDMI input. There are many more of them to choose from.

Thanks - the Thunderbolt/HDMI info is useful. I guess I was looking for personal recommendations, but it's good to know I can go for more or less any HD monitor 🙂
I like the Dell UltraSharp monitors but you are right any monitor will work.
If you aren't wanting to spend much the Acer G246HL is a popular option and only costs $140. I've always been a fan of Acer monitors. Even though they are inexpensive I have never had one die on me.
I use an ASUS MX279H with my MacBook. I love using my MacBook as a desktop. It's nice to have everything in one spot and not have to worry about syncing files.
