My iMac OSX 10.9.5 cannot detect my Canon MG6450 wireless printer, although I have downloaded the printer driver - successfully, I'm told. The printer is connected to the the router and internet. Any ideas, anyone?

Make sure you have added the printer.
Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners then selec the Print tab.
If you don't see the printer on the left, click ➕
Sorry, click what?
Oh yes, I see, click +. I have tried that but no options appear in the window.
How do you know the printer is connected to the network?
If you have the printers IP address open Terminal (applications/Utilities) and at the prompt type: ping {printerIP}. You will get a reply or failure.
Hi, I have the same question as cece@no6. Have uninstalled drivers. Have downloaded new Canon drivers, but Mac will still not detect printer. Have restarted devices. Printer and router are connected, Mac continues not to detect printer. Troubleshoot provides no solution. Can you help? Thanks!
If you haven't done so already, try resetting the printing system.

On my printer, under TCP/IP settings it says IPv4 and IPv6. When I click either of these, no IP addresses are displayed. I have connected the printer with my Mac through a USB cable, but the computer still doesn't find the printer. In printer settings, when I try to add a printer, no printer is found.
Pinging as you suggested, does not yield any info either.
Did you try resetting the printing system?
Yes - I will try to connect a different printer and see if that one will be found by the Mac and I will also try to connect the printer to a different computer, in order to figure out where the problem is. Will get in touch again after that. Many thanks for your help!

It has been solved! We took both the printer and our MAC to the seller, who was able to connect it in no time. When we got back home, again it wouldn't work! We couldn't find the printer's IP address because the router didn't provide an IP address (something with IPV4 and IPV6, I was told). We got a new router, but that one urned out to be faulty as it was not allowing any wifi settings - not even for our MAC (yes, it was Friday 13th 😉 ), so with the third router, we plugged it in, entered the right settings with the help desk assistant of our provider and IT WORKED! It took us only 4 months to figure out what was to blame 😀 I hope this info is useful for everyone and thank you again for your time and effort. Have a nice weekend!
