Screen froze, purple lines, three beeps. Help!

I was using my computer to watch a movie, when suddenly it froze and purple lines appeared on the screen. The purple lines seemed to glitch, and the sound of the movie sounded like a broken record. In a panic, I held the power button to turn it off. The screen went black, but the fan was still going, and the computer was emitting three beeps. I held the power button again, and it finally completely shut down. I did some research, and it says the three beeps are a problem with the memory, but what about the lines? What does that mean?

Hello to everyone, I know this is super late but I had the same exact problem. I bought a MacBook Pro mid 2012 from eBay and I thought the person that sold it to me knew it had the problem but that was not the case. She had told me that one of the memory slots did not work and I forgot she told me that so I still put both memory sticks in the memory slots and my Mac started having the blurred lines, glitch and beep.So I contacted the seller if she knew of the problem and then she reminded me of the memory slot damage. So I went a removed the memory stick. and now my MacBook Pro 13 mid 2012 works perfectly! SO I BELIEVE THE CAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM IS A DAMAGED MEMORY SLOT. Hope this helps! Thanks!

Hello! This is very late but I'm experiencing the same problem. What I did upon knowing that my Mac won't function anymore (purple lines, froze, beeping sounds) was I had it checked in Apple Center here in the Philippines. Their initial diagnosis was a logic board problem (which costs at around 30,000 pesos here. too expensive!!!). I didn't push through with installing new logic board, and instead I had it reformatted. As of the moment, it's still on its normal state, but when I pressed the left side of the screen (because I was about to move the Macbook from the table to my bed), the purple lines started to show again, the screen froze and the laptop shut down on its own. After a few minutes, I turned it on, and now it functions normally without any glitches... I hope. What's the best solution for this? I don't want to spend so much money if I'm only going to experience the same thing, again and again.
