My XProtect.plist and XProtect.meta.plist files are not updating.

10.9.5

My XProtect.plist and XProtect.meta.plist files are not updating:

/System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/XProtect.plist

/System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/XProtect.meta.p list

I have "Install system data files and security updates" checked in my App Store Pref Pane.

I've also rebooted and opened the Mac App Store and checked for updates.

Any ideas?

Thanks ... Ken

Maybe at the stroke of midnight it will update.

04978 is a krdl update (whatever that is) that was first made available on 2014-07-07

08037 is a ChineseWordlistUpdate (I know, but we all get them) posted on 2014-09-30

08691 is GatekeeperConfigData posted on 2014-10-03

08850 is XProtectPlistConfigData posted yesterday

So something is definitely wrong and I doubt that midnight is going to make any difference for you. Mine updated yesterday at 4:40 PM PDT.

The only suggestion would be to go back to the App Store preferences and toggle the "Install system data files and security updates" box off, wait a few seconds and then on again. I can't say for certain that controls these updates, but it's the closest thing I've been able to find.

No longer works with Mavericks and above. The xprotectupdate function has been removed and integrated into the critical software update process.

Figures. They remove a very useful manual way to update and integrate it into their autoupdate process. SuXXXXs, IMO.

Hey guys,

I've been running into the same problem. I recently reset my whole system to clear off any junk I've downloaded over the years - and that's no small number - and I installed only a few extra applications (Sophos, Chrome, Microsoft Office, etc.). I'm running the most recent version of Mavericks with all updates installed. But I still haven't had any updates to those same four files. I tried everything I read on this thread, but none of that worked. I also uninstalled Sophos in case that was interfering with install processes, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Any ideas for what I could do? What are some of the things you tried?

Much thanks for any help!

I checked then unchecked "Automatically check for updates" and

"Install system data files and security updates. Restarted,

Opened Mac App Store and checked for updates.

I changes permissions on the Xprotect files. Restarted.

Opened Mac App Store and checked for updates.

It seems the updates only occur after a certain amount of time.

Try leaving your Mac on 24hrs.

So it appears that any changes made might not take

affect for 24hrs.

Good luck and post back your results.

Sorry, I'm a bit new at this. What do you mean by changing permissions?

Also, I generally shut down my computer at night. Did you normally do that as well, thus keeping updates from installing properly? I'm trying to figure out if my issue is being caused by some other software installer interfering with auto-updates, or if a greater issue is the problem and I need to contact an Apple representative.

Also, does leaving my Mac "on" mean leaving it in "sleep" mode, or do I need to actually leave it awake for 24 hours?

Thanks a ton!

Changing the permissions probably did not do anything

but if you want to:

Select the document/file.

Perform a Get Info (⌘+i).

Click the padlock icon in the lower right.

Enter your password when prompted.

In the lower part of the window under "Sharing & Permissions":

Click on the Privilege double arrow.

Select Read & Write for each name.

Close the window.

My guess is checking and unchecking the options

in the App Store Pref Pane did it.

I would let your computer not sleep for 24 hrs.

Put the display to sleep to prevent burn in.

Thanks ... Ken
