How do I connect 2nd monitor to 2010 Mac Pro?

Hi all, I'd appreciate some help as I'm a little out of my element.


I have a mid 2010 Mac Pro tower and I'm looking to add a second monitor to it for my video editing.


There is no second monitor port in the back that I'm aware of, just the one for my primary monitor.


Is there a possible way to connect a second monitor to this machine? If it requires adding another video card or something else special, links are appreciated.

You don't need another card or USB adapter.

Your current graphics card can run up to three displays. It has one dual-link DVI-I port and two Mini DisplayPorts.


If your new display uses Mini DisplayPort or DisplayPort, you can use a Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort or DisplayPort cable

Your Mac Pro almost assuredly has a second graphics port already -- it probably just does not look like one. See if your card has one or two of these tiny Mini DisplayPorts on it. Unfortunately, the DVI shown is shrunk (to about half actual size) from its relative size:
