Please download GPT Fdisk from http://sourceforge.net/projects/gptfdisk/. This should help in crafting a Hybrid MBR and make Windows visible.

It is good to see the NTFS header intact. This should be relatively painless with the Beta OS remaining in place. This should be tested first before Beta OS is moved anywhere.

1. Do you want to be able to read your HFS volumes from the Windows side?

2. If you plan to remove Beta OS at some point, you may need to repeat this exercise, if Windows becomes un-bootable.

3. Rather a suggestion, do not change partition sizes via Disk Utility or Windows Disk Management at all, otherwise you can cause data loss and corruption.

In the current configuration, to make Windows work, with two OSX partitions, you may be able to get read access to Beta OS, but not your original OSX, because it needs to be "hidden" in the MBR.

This should be tested before you attempt to switch to Windows. The following commands will create a new Hybrid MBR with partitions 4,5 and 6 and make 6 bootable. In the following sequence (say yes to include EFI - good for GRUB question). Partition code for 4 is AF, 5 is AB, 6 is 07 and is marked bootable.

sudo gdisk /dev/disk0

p

r

h

4 5 6

(after this point you need to follow the prompts and the codes as mentioned above).

p (one you have completed the sequence of questions).

w (to write the MBR)

y (to confirm the write).

Please post the output of sudo fdisk /dev/disk0 at this point. This will allow the MBR to be checked.

What year/model Mac is this and are you running W8.1?

If you get any error messages please stop and post back.

Oct 6, 2014 2:50 PM in response to hughfraser

AF, AB and 07 are partition codes, not GPT numbers. You need to use 4 5 6. After you enter "h", you will need to enter 4 5 6. Gdisk then will prompt you for details of each partition. the AF, AB,07 are used at that point.

It would look similar to the following. Notice the Code column.

Recovery/transformation command (? for help): p

Disk /dev/disk0: 1954210120 sectors, 931.8 GiB

Logical sector size: 512 bytes

First usable sector is 34, last usable sector is 1954210086

Partitions will be aligned on 8-sector boundaries

Does this look OK? Will I reboot?

Oct 6, 2014 3:04 PM in response to hughfraser

Test 1 - Can you see Bootcamp Volume in Finder?

Test 2 - Can you see files in Bootcamp volume?

Test 3 - Can you see Bootcamp in System Preferences - Startup Disk?

Test 4 - If Test 1,2, and 3 are successful, select Restart after choosing Bootcamp.

If you see a hanging underline cursor in top left corner and a black screen, you may need Windows Startup Repair.

Oct 6, 2014 3:21 PM in response to hughfraser

Please also test switching back to OSX and test reading the Beta OS HFS+ from Windows. It should switch back to Beta OS only. If you need the other OSX installation, please power cycle and use ALT key to select the other OSX installation. This is very fragile, please make sure you have backups.

Congratulations! Very nicely done.
