How to add caller to Facetime audio call in ios8?

Lots of announcement include the suggestion that conference calling for Facetime audio has been added to iOS 8.

When I try to setup a conference call I don't have access to the 'merge all' button in Facetime.

1. Setup facetime audio call with other facetime user

2. Add another user by clicking the add button

3. Establish Facetime audio connection with the new caller

4. Merge calls (this doesn't work, how to get this working?)

Here are the instructions from the iPhone User Guide. Unfortunately I haven't tried them yet..

“Add multiple callers. While on a FaceTime audio call or a phone call, you can add another person to the conversation. Put the first call on hold, then tap to add another FaceTime audio or phone call.”

Thanks bobseufert for the quick reply. I had found the manual of iOS 8 already but the instruction is quite brief.

It works to add another FaceTime audio call and I can also switch between them. But one of them always stays on hold. The option to merge them is 'grayed out'.

Your welcome. It sounds so simple in the manual, it didn't even mention merge. Unfortunately it's too late at night for me to be calling people or I'd give it a try. Hopefully someone will see your question and be able to help you.

No replies yet ? I did a google search and couldn't find anyway to make FaceTime conference calls. I wonder if the feature is available yet. If it is available when something is greyed out that can mean there are restictions on. Go to settings> general> restrictions and make sure no restrictions are enabled. If nothing else hopefully your question will get bumped to the front of the line and someone will know for sure.

It is available and works perfectly on my iPhone.

In your case my guess would be that one or more of your added contacts don't have the iOS8 on their device which prevents the call merging option.

Thanks for your quick reply. At least we know the feature works. The problem the OP is having is they can connect to two people one at a time but the word merge remains greyed out.

Ask them to update to iOS 8 and the merge option will be available 🙂

Early in the morning here in the Netherlands. Thanks for the replies.

the restrictions are off on my device. They couldn't be the problem.

I checked that the other devices are on iOS8 and the are. So that shouldn't be a problem.

I will do some further testing today and keep you posted if I find something.

in the meantim; does anyone has any idea what is disabeling the merge button?

at least it's good to know that the option works for others.

Could it be that there is a device restriction? That it is only available when all callers are on iPhone 5 or up?

I can't find anything that says it's device restricted. I wonder if it's not available in the Netherlands yet. I'd give the nearest Apple Store a quick call and ask.

Ok so i have the same problem here, new iPhone 6 plus, all of my friends are iOS 8 AND iPhone 6 too.. and the merge option is grayed. Trying to call Apple care and the guy cut me off on the phone. Thinking i am telling stupid things 😟

So I've called Apple Care and make sure that the problem reach the engineers.

Guess what, they found the problem and they are going to fix it in the next update (supposed)
