iTunes Freezes when connecting ANY iOS device

So, my issue is exactly what the title describes, but let me give some more detail.

I have a MacBook Pro (OSX 10.9.5) that's currently running iTunes 11.4. My issue is that every time I connect any of my iOS devices (or my wife's or friends') as soon as iTunes begins to detect an iOS device, it freezes. The computer doesn't freeze, the device doesn't freeze, just iTunes - as soon as the device name pops up in the upper right corner of iTunes, the program freezes.

This issue did not happen on previous versions of iTunes (I think on 11.2 and earlier), but as soon as I updated, it started happening. For a while, I just kept a previous version of iTunes so that I could keep syncing my devise, but when I got my iPhone 5 (recently) it won’t requires the newer iTunes version, so I can’t keep doing that.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes multiple times with no success. I have tried resetting the devices, making sure all updates are done on all devices, etc.

To be clear, I have tried this with multiple different devices (iPod Touch 3rd Gen, iPad 2, iPod Touch 4th Gen, iPad Mini, iPhone 5) and it does exactly the same thing with all of them – it does not happen with any of these devices when connecting them to my wife’s PC or my work MacBook Pro. This makes me assume that it is an issue with either my Macbook Pro, or with how iTunes is installed on it.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5), and previous Mavericks versions

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

View ▹ Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

So, I'll work on your last suggestion as soon as I get home from work, but I went back through the instructions in the link you posted before.

I was frustrated with those instructions because they seemed to leave out one potential situation which I happen to fall into. My issue did not occur with a new user, but did occur under my original user with a new library. There are no instructions for what to do in that situation. It simply assumes that your issue will not occur in a new library if it didn't occur with a new user, it seems.

Any thoughts on that in the mean time?

I sorted through most of the code and I don't think I got anything too extraneous in there nor do I think I got any of my personal info in there. Any help you can provide would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Back up all data before proceeding.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

~/Library/Application Support/SyncServices

Right-click or control-click the line and select

Services Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)

from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Quit the application if it's running. Move the selected item to the Trash. Relaunch the application and test.

*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select

Go Go to Folder...

from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

I'm sorry, but I'm confused about where I need to be triple clicking and/or what I'm supposed to be right clicking. Could you please explain a bit more for me there? I'm seeing the Application Support folder, but I'm not seeing SyncServices within it.

Thank you again so much for your help so far and sorry for not understanding what you're talking about with this last direction.

Oct 8, 2014 6:40 PM in response to Linc Davis

Ok, sorry! I found the SyncServices folder now, but I'm still unsure of where I'm supposed to be triple clicking, what I'm supposed to be right clicking and what I'm supposed to be bringing to the trash...honestly, I don't really understand much of what your most recent post says - so sorry for being a pain.

Am I right clicking on SyncServices and clicking Reveal in Folder right? After that I'm a little lost.
