iTunes Freezes when connecting ANY iOS device

So, my issue is exactly what the title describes, but let me give some more detail.

I have a MacBook Pro (OSX 10.9.5) that's currently running iTunes 11.4. My issue is that every time I connect any of my iOS devices (or my wife's or friends') as soon as iTunes begins to detect an iOS device, it freezes. The computer doesn't freeze, the device doesn't freeze, just iTunes - as soon as the device name pops up in the upper right corner of iTunes, the program freezes.

This issue did not happen on previous versions of iTunes (I think on 11.2 and earlier), but as soon as I updated, it started happening. For a while, I just kept a previous version of iTunes so that I could keep syncing my devise, but when I got my iPhone 5 (recently) it won’t requires the newer iTunes version, so I can’t keep doing that.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes multiple times with no success. I have tried resetting the devices, making sure all updates are done on all devices, etc.

To be clear, I have tried this with multiple different devices (iPod Touch 3rd Gen, iPad 2, iPod Touch 4th Gen, iPad Mini, iPhone 5) and it does exactly the same thing with all of them – it does not happen with any of these devices when connecting them to my wife’s PC or my work MacBook Pro. This makes me assume that it is an issue with either my Macbook Pro, or with how iTunes is installed on it.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5), and previous Mavericks versions
