Carplay not working properly with Siri

Installed a Pioneer AVH 4000-NEX in my car & updated with the Apple Carplay on Oct 4th. At first everything seemed to be working fine but then I realized that Siri is not working properly: when I say ‘Hey Siri’ I can see the screen with the microphone & the message saying ‘How can I help’ displayed but when I ask her to do something nothing happens and the session is terminated. Felt like Siri didn’t like what I said & decided to just ignores me… I guess married guys can relate 🙂Sometimes she does respond back by saying 'Hey (my name)’! instead of asking ‘how can I help?’ and then goes back to sleep which makes things frustrating but funny at the same time. Occasionally, she does respond (I’d say 2 out of 10 times).

I called Apple support & the lady said it’s expected to have bugs with a new release but couldn’t specify if it’s IOS 8 related or just Carplay. I guess we’d have to make our voices heard in order for Apple to notice that problem & fix it so please join this conversation if you have similar problem

PS: I’m using iPhone 6

Similar issue with my Alpine ILX-007, which is purely CarPlay (plus an AM/FM radio). The new Alpine Head Unit (HU) is so minimal Steve Jobs would be love it, but he might join me in scolding Ms Siri. I had it professionally installed in a MBz W211 (E Class) and it works perfectly, like an extension of my iPhone 6, which is the problem. Siri comes up instantly with the Alpine Siri button or the home button on the iPhone, give you its welcome screen with the wave form, goes to a secondary screen and shuts off, almost always. Siri works as well as it ever does without the connection (USB-to-Lightning wired only, no BlueTooth available, which is not a problem, I'm sure Steve would agree). Siri can rarely hear me through the phone, and phone calls can sometimes not speak/hear through CarPlay, so it seems to be an i/o switching issue, probably not hardware because there are (random?) instances of proper function.

Alpine will have a hard time selling such a stripped down unit, so I'm not expecting major convulsions in either Apple nor Alpine's customer service response. I can work around Siri, as critical as it is, so I'm overall very happy with the Alpine unit. In any case, I could not spend hours with the dancing blue lights and myriad of options typical of HeadUnits. A simple porting of CarPlay functionality and interface is welcome in my car. Unfortunately, while driving, voice recognition is critical, and Siri's obvious failings are at least frustrating if not dangerous. Would class-action serious liability awaken a response from Apple/Alpine? Normal, legal, advertised CarPlay use with Siri is definitely not ready for the open road. They should pull it or fix it before somebody gets hurt.
