You do not have to search the App Store. Just click on the app name in the update list. This takes you to the details page, where you can update if needed. if youre using automatic updates the app itself is probably being updated even though it doesn't look like it. Just check the app version number against iTunes.
I'm fairly certain the problem is on Apple's end. Why else would this happen to everyone all at the same time? There's no way all of us goofed up some sort of App Store setting on the same date.
I've found at least 3 other threads on the same topic. If everyone sends in a bug report, perhaps Apple will do something. To my knowledge, they ignore these forums. Apple's customer service is really appalling when it comes to fixing problems like this or implementing requested common sense features into their products, so you'll need to make some noise elsewhere. There's nothing you can do to fix this problem short of upgrading to ios8. Perhaps this is Apple's way of forcing us to do so.
