App store icon shows 21 updates but no updates avail

I have an iPhone 5 with software up to date. The app store icon shows 21 updates available but when I open the app store it has "update all" under intensified. I tried syncing with my computer (iTunes), turning off and back on... etc. The icon remains with the 21 showing in the upper right corner and the 21 also shows on the updates tab along the bottom of the screen when I open the app store but still "update all" is under intensified. How do I fix this?

SAme issue. Just started. Last successful update was 10/9. My ipad 2 and 2 Iphone 5’s affected. Running IOS 7.04

Try doing a reset. Press and hold both the Home and Sleep buttons at the same time for 10 seconds or so until you see the Apple logo.

Try signing out of the App Store, restart your phone, then sign back in.

I have been struggling with this issue also after the ios 8 update.

I Went into the settings menu, selected itunes and App Store and made sure that the automatic updates tab was on - this has removed the the numbers badge that was sooo annoying before - hope it works for you too :-)

The concern is that apple apparently is not aware there is a problem.

The issue has been reported, you can see this on other threads. My concern was getting rid of the annoying red badge and have found a solution if only temporary that has worked... I hope it now works for others

Kimberly same issues "update all" is still grayed out, red badge is there as well updated through purchased apps manually 2 apps still wont update just open...issues on iPad and iTouch. reboot or shutdowns don't help. Don't want to reset. what have you found out?

I didn't do anything more than turn auto updates on for the App Store as a whole within the settings menu and that cleared everything for me

I'm still having some issues...I did this...go into settings scroll to iTunes and App Store. Then scroll to Updates and turn on (to green) Updates .that automatically updates. I had 13 apps to update all but Flixster and yahoo weather are still in the Update list,,,that said both of those apps work. I use these devices everyday this just started today.
