HBO GO won't activate on Apple TV but it's activated on my MacBook Air

I just uploaded the newest version of Apple TV and when I go to HBO GO it tells me I need to activate HBO GO and gives me an activation code. I already have an active HBO GO account on my computer but I went ahead and followed the steps I was told. Once I finished the steps, my computer said "SUCCESS.... you may now start streaming HBO GO on your Apple TV". Yeah. Not. I went back to HBO GO on my Apple TV and the same thing happened again, I was prompted to activate. Now I have done literally everything I can think of and I have been doing this for four hours, I have read blogs, apple community, Apple TV help, HBO GO help, you name it and nothing. I have also done the following:

I made sure my Apple TV and HBO GO are on the same network...Check

I logged out of HBO GO and logged back in...Nothing

I restarted both my computer and my Apple TV...Nothing.

I restored my Apple TV to it's factory settings...Nothing

I restored my Apple TV to it's factory settings AND went through the activation process again...Nothing

My cable provider is AT&T UVerse and is compatible and offers HBO GO on Apple TV. So what the heck?????

Can somebody PLEASE help?? All I want to do is start watching Empire Boardwalk from the beginning and its not on Netflix yet and I can't get back to season one on my cable. Additionally my Airplay playback is really slow if I try to watch it on my computer through Airplay!

Trust me...I've tried it all.

I've tried it all too, and it hasn't worked for months. I've walked through all the steps listed by everyone here, over and over again. Was on the phone with Apple for almost an hour, updating and resetting my Apple TV. Called Comcast, they checked everything on their end as well. Last stop has been HBO... BEYOND frustrating and disappointing! I've been emailing them for months now, and when I finally got a response, it just said that they are aware of the issue and are investigating it to find a solution... that was 3 months ago! HBO Go works on all my other devices, so I use Airplay, but I noticed you said your playback on Airplay is slow. Our Apple TV is hardwired with the Ethernet cable for our internet connection, I think that helps with the Airplay.

I'm sorry I don't have a solution, I just wanted you to know you are not alone. I have tried it ALL and tried all the solutions listed on here so many times, and its just so incredibly frustrating!

I hope HBO fixes it. And if they every reply to me to help fix this issue, I will post on here.

Good luck!

Hi Wendy,

Thank you for your response. See my above reply to Norm. It's infuriating. Very frustrating. You'd think Apple would have some of technical support employee's perusing these blogs trying to help, even if it is an HBO issue. And in the case that it is (most likely) an HBO issue they should tell HBO, as a business partner to Apple, to get it together!

Best,

Kelley

I think I may have found a solution for you guys! It helped me just now and I was having the same exact problem, and I know how frustrating it was.User uploaded file

Follow the steps exactly, you HAVE to go to the settings tab when you launch HBO GO, click on 'Activate Your Device' and your code will pop up. Do not exit from that screen, stay on it. Go on your computer and go to hbogo.com/activate. Select Apple TV , then your TV provider, then type in the code from the screen of your Apple TV (Still staying on that screen), and then click 'Activate' and you should see the 'Success' message pop up on your computer screen and just wait a moment and the 'Success' message should pop up on your tv screen as well, that's when you know it has worked and you can start watching content on your Apple TV! (: If the 'Success' message doesn't pop up on your TV screen, idk what the problem could be but this fixed my problem that was the exact same problem as you guys. Hope this helps!

P.S. I know I was being repetitive from the image I put up but just thought maybe if I typed it the way I did it, it will help lol. Good luck!

I too had all the log in problems posted above re. Apple TV and HBO Go--what held me up and I eventually figured out is that you have to wait a minute or two before the "Success" message appears on your TV after successfully logging on through your desk/lap/ipad device and getting the "Success" message there first. If you do not wait for the TV message you end up getting a different activation code on Apple TV each time you try to view HBO. Hope this helps.

I performed the activation steps numerous times and finally found this to work:

1. Go into the Apple TV menu

2. Settings

3. General

4. Software Updates

5. Update Software (even if "Update Automatically" is selected "on")

6. In Settings, General, Restart Apple TV

After running the update:

1. Go back to the Apple TV menu

2. Go to HBO Go

3. Settings

4. Activate Device

This time a window came up that showed my Apple TV device and allowed me to input the activation code. All is well and works great! Hope this helps.
