HP Laserjet P4014 Stopped – ‘Filter’ failed

I’ve seen discussion of this for other printers and versions of OS X. Has anyone seen this on 10.9.5 and, better still, solved it?

If I try to print to a networked HP Laserjet P4014, the print queue gives up with the message

Stopped – ‘Filter’ failed

Things I have tried so far:

  • downloading new HP driver software
  • resetting the printing system
  • changing the computer network name
  • rebooting

The only effect of all this so far is having to put back the printer’s network name and password.

At best, I get 1 page printed, followed by a Postscript error.

The only workaround so far: print to PDF and print the PDF from a Linux machine.

I have similar problem in my company. Network printer on the server, mac 10.10.2, win2012R2. When printer has universal driver (on server), it work but is very slow (it spool one page from MAC to server, print it, spool another page, print......). When printer (on server) has driver (HP LJ 300-400 MFP m375-m475) only say filter failed

from error log:

D [31/Mar/2015:08:09:02 +0200] [Job 15] job id is 24...

D [31/Mar/2015:08:09:02 +0200] [Job 15] Sending print data...

when I setup (on server) "start printing after last page is spooled" mac say, that Print-Job successful-ok, but on server it only start loading in the queue and disappear.

in both case printer on mac has driver HP LJ 300-400 MFP m375-m475

Any idea how get normal speed of print?
