Anyone tested iDVD with Yosemite ?
What version of iDVD did you test with Yosemite? I'm interested in iDVD 7.
Thanks!
Can you just update the OS and do nothing more? I have Idvd and everythings working great.
I would hate to spoil the Idvd install I have going good now.
Hi Old Toad,
Please take a look at the iMovie thread also. Some say iMovie HD / iMovie 06 will not work with Yosemite.
Someone posted a “fix”.
>>> Just figured it out!
Find iMovie HD.app, control click on it and View Package Contents. Open Contents/MacOS/iMovie HD. That seems to bypass the check. <<<
I have Mavericks with 2013 Imac top spec
CDDickson:
The last version offered: 7.1.2.

Yes. Installing Yosemite will not remove iDVD. However, just to be safe make a backup of the iDVD folder inside your Home/Library/Application Support folder. That's where all the themes are placed.
Also check in the HD/Library/Application Support folder for an iDVD folder. Some installs put the folder there instead of the folder in your Home folder.
Also as with any upgrade it's wise to have a backup of your entire hard drive before upgrading. As Forrest Gump said: "It happens". 🙂
I tried that fix and it will open but won't work further than that. That method also opens the Terminal app which lists all of the problems iMovie is having. It freezes up when you try to start creating a project.

If you close the Terminal window iMovie closes. The project file it creates is not a package as it normally is but just a folder. It freezes up when you try to edit an audio clip. Then when closed it won't open the project again.

Hi Old Toad,
Thank you for your testing efforts. It's good to know that iDVD still works. I copied your iMovie HD report over to iMovie. It's probably best to continue the discussion there because that is where people will go to seek help. You will be interested to know that at least one other person is reporting success with iMovie HD and Yosemite using the "jboolean" workaround.
I found that iDVD works only so-so with Yosemite. When I burn one video file, it seems to do okay. When I combine two files and have to adjust performance so it can fit on the DVD I get either multiplex errors, or the program refuses to burn the CD after encrypting the video.
Regarding the multiplexing errors see Bengt Wärleby's post in this topic:
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
When I try to burn a DVD with a small (4MB) video, it burns fine. If I try to burn a large video (742MB) I get an Error:
Encoding video
There was an error in movie encoding.
I get the same Error if I try to Save as a disk image.
My link didn't show. Here it is again: Multiplexing Error
Thanks. This did work, but it sorta defeats the raison d'être of iDVD, and that is to make a DVD.
