"Your iPhone is not configured to make phone calls using your mac."

Shortly after downloading the full version of OS Yosemite, I tried making a phone call from my mac, and got this message, "Your iPhone is not configured to make phone calls using your mac."

I am not quite sure what to do next, any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Patrick

That error message usually means that one of the settings on the iPhone is incorrect. Check them again. Also, be sure that the Facetime app preferences on your Mac has "iPhone Cellular Calls" turned on.

After double-checking all settings if it still doesn't work do the last step, logging out of iCloud on your computer, then logging in again. Choose to delete each of the items; if you don't you will end up with duplicates when you turn it back on.

I solved this issue by going into the facetime preferences on my MAC, and unchecking any of the other emails/phone numbers associated with my apple id. We share one account in my house for 3 phones and multiple emails, and it seems that when multiple phone numbers are selected for use on facetime on the mac, it doesn't know which to use to dial out.

Bad error message.

I needed to do several things on this list. One thing I found not on this list was the need to have the iPhone phone number in question selected on my Mac's FaceTime app. FaceTime -> Preferences -> Settings -> You can be reached for FaceTime at:

I had unchecked my iPhone's phone number to stop the pop-ups every time my phone rang. But now with Handoff being so handy, I needed to turn it back on.

My problem & solution:

I had changed my MacBook computer name but Apple didn't update it on my phone, so it no longer matched the device name selected in the "allow calls on" list on my iPhone. This was preventing me from being able to call out but still allowed incoming calls.

The solution was to logout of iCloud on my MacBook and back in again. This caused to device name in the list on my iPhone to be corrected.
