airdrop not working (iOS8 and Yosemite)?

Is anyone else having difficulty with the new Airdrop? I have the 6+ phone and an iMac that was just updated with Yosemite but I cannot get one to see the other. Hopefully this is just a glitch that will be rectified soon?
(I followed the instructions found in the support page for this too)

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.7), 8GB RAM, otherwise factory stock.

You cannot airdrop from iOS to OS X / Vice versa.

Same here: 4 Macs, all running Yosemite, 3 iPhones and 2 iPads all running latest 8.02 and no Airdrop possible whtasover between the iOS to OS and vice versa. They don't even show up in Airdrop. All use same Wifi netwerk, same iCloud etc. This seems like a bug. None of my friends seem to be able to use it either, so what is going on?

Good to know, I also get the limited Airdrop view (no option to choose everyone + the 'general' never stops whirling... and this since day 1 on all of my devices):

Thanks for all the replies people. I appreciate it.
I found the problem and it was from me not reading all the way through the text explaining Airdrop...

"In order to transfer files between a Mac and and an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, your iOS device needs iOS 7 or later installed and your Mac needs to be a 2012 or later model."

I have a 2009 build iMac, hence my problem. I guess I get to do without Airdrop until my planned upgrade at the beginning of next year. (unless I can whine and snivel enough to my wife to let me upgrade sooner)

Cheers!!

I have a mid 2012 MacBook Air running Yosemite and an iPhone 5c running 8.02. In AirDrop, the Mac can detect the iPhone, but the iPhone cannot detect the Mac. Rebooting, turning Bluetooth on and off on both devices, and every other combination has not solved the problem. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

The following comes from "Mac Basics: AirDrop helps you share items with others nearby" on the Apple Support site:

Macs that include AirDrop support are the same as, or newer than, the models listed below.

  • MacBook Pro (Late 2008 or newer)*
  • MacBook Air (Late 2010 or newer)
  • MacBook (Late 2008 or newer)*
  • iMac (Early 2009 or newer)
  • Mac Mini (Mid 2010 or newer)
  • Mac Pro (Early 2009 with AirPort Extreme card, or Mid 2010)

*The MacBook Pro (17-Inch Late 2008) and the white MacBook (Late 2008) do not support AirDrop.

You would think from this that a mid 2012 MacBook Air would work with an iPhone 5.
