airdrop not working (iOS8 and Yosemite)?

Is anyone else having difficulty with the new Airdrop? I have the 6+ phone and an iMac that was just updated with Yosemite but I cannot get one to see the other. Hopefully this is just a glitch that will be rectified soon?
(I followed the instructions found in the support page for this too)

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.7), 8GB RAM, otherwise factory stock.

AIrDrop is not working very well for me either. I have a new iPhone 6 a new Mac Pro on Yosimite and an iPad Air. AirDrop appears to fail more times than it works. I called and talked to Apple yesterday. They had me turn AirDrop off on my iPhone then back on to contacts only. It worked a few times after that but today even that fails to work. I think they still have a few kinks to work out. It's odd because I've used an app called InstaShare and it works every single time. Maybe Apple should have just bought that company?

Had the same issue but after 3hrs and four different people at Apple support we got it to work.

1st we got the iPhone to be able to see the MBP by disabling the firewall

System Preferences>Security & Privacy>Firewall>Turn Off Firewall

2nd we were able to get it to work with the Firewall

Firewall Options...>sharingd>Allow incoming connections>Automatically allow signed software to receive incoming connections

greetings,

iMac late 2012 10.10

iPad Air 8.1

iPhone 5S 8.1

iPhone to iPad Airdrop works fine

iMac to mobile devices does not work unless i turn OFF the iMac firewall. once turned off, it works fine.

is there an exception i can add to the iMac firewall so that it can be on all the time?

thank you

edit

tried this suggestion. works from iPhone to iMac, but iMac does not see iPhone in Airdrop window.

Well, both my macs are with yosemite (one is a macbook pro 2012 model and the other is a macbook air, this year's model) and neither pick each other up in airdrop. I found this frustrating as, in the past, I loved that feature! It was invaluable for me to transfer my files.

So what's the deal? I've turned airdrop on on both computers, made sure that both could "see" everyone, but they don't connect, they're sitting right next to each other.

Then, while I was looking up this page, the forum turns up on the other computer as well! ***?

Bluetooth is enabled, wifi is enabled, still no airdrop.

Other than an old wheel iPod, I don't have another apple device, so I can't see if the problem is the same there. I've even tried the old "shut down and reboot" and nothing changes.

The best solution: install the Instashare app on every device, old and new. I use that instead of airdrop which doesn't work on pre-2012 machines (to iOS and back) or which has a lot of hick ups. Now my 2 ipads, 2 iphones, 3 macs are connected without any problem and it works super fast, actually faster than airdrop. It's a mystery to me why an outside company app can do things better than a built-in tool... The app will cost you like 4 euro or so to install cross devices (Mac app and ios app.
