ATV 3 Version 7.0 Home Sharing not woking with Yosemite and iTunes 12

Home Sharing from my Apple TV 3 (A1469) with software 7.0 is not working from the library on my MacBook Pro (Mid 2012) with OS X Yosemite 10.10, Airplay still works but its annoying to have to choose a Song/Movie/TV show from my MBP and then Airplay it to the ATV. Much preferred how well Home Sharing worked.

- I have both devices signed in to the same Apple ID.

- Have tired turning Home Sharing off and on

- Have restored the Apple TV

Using all devices on the same 5G wifi network (Huawei HG659b)

Most annoying thing is it was working perfectly before iTunes 12 was released.

Has anyone else discovered this problem? Does Apple or anyone have a fix?

Please HELP!

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10), Yosemite 10.10

I was in the same case HS was not woking since 2 months. It is why I posted a reply when I discover that my Apple TV home share was back online After my cleanup. If we someone can find a workaround for this bug then it will help many people.

Note that I tried to correct by following the troubleshooting from Apple before. I updated my airport extreme router, modified my network parameter and modified my firewall settings. Also modifed to allow my apple TV to wake my macbook. This not worked at all.

WIth my experience with Itunes, I suspect the HS have more than 1 problem ( by example I had dupplicate libraries at one point and this problem was gone at some point in Yosemite )

Hope they will be fix soon because I was near to defenestrate my apple TV and go buy a box from a competitor.... I guess my apple tv was afraid of me at this point and begin to work again.

In another update of symptoms; my girlfriends ATV 3 (A1469) and MBP with a new install of Yosemite (never had the beta installed) works perfectly...

Even more frustrating, I've deleted my library.itl file and rebuilt my library with no luck. I have only ever set up home Sharing from the File menu so thats not the issue with mine unfortunately. I'm glad some of yours has been fixed by switching on home sharing that way.

I will try another fresh install of Yosemite and see what happens.

Meanspa's solution worked for me. Reason is that you need to enter your AppleID / password and don't have the opportunity through Preferences. I suppose Preferences could be used later to disable Home Sharing, should you want to do something.

In any case, use File, Home Sharing to turn off the feature and then reenable it. You should be asked for your AppleID and password. After that you should be good to go.

Turning on/off Home Sharing in iTunes alone didn't work for me. What eventually worked: (not sure how much was necessary or unnecessary, but tried a few things based on the posts above)

-On Mac:

--Turned off Home Sharing in iTunes (File -> Home Sharing)

--Changed Library Name in iTunes (in Preferences)

-On AppleTV:

--Turn Home Sharing Off (Setting -> Computers)

--Turn Home Sharing On

-On Mac:

--Turn on Home Sharing (File -> Home Sharing)

I don't think that is has something to do with the itunes library, tried a completely new one and it did not help. It it has nothing to do with the Beta-Software either, as I never had the Beta-Yosemity running on my iMax 21,5 (Mid 2011).

I have no clue what causes the problem with HS, nor what solves it. I can just say, that after restoring/clean-installing everything (Yosemite, ATV and time capsule) at least twice, HS suddenly worked again with my original itunes library.

I've now done two update installs of Yosemite (from the app store) on my macbook pro now with not success. Not sure if it's worth doing a completely clean install from the boot menu has anyone tried this? Like meuffel said he doesn't think it's and thing to do with my beta software.

Ive tired deleting the library.itl file - NO LUCK I've tried re-naming the library - NO LUCK the ATV recognises the name change but still gives the error message

OATESY, the second of my "clean" installs of Yosemity indeed was succesful. After the Yosemite-Download you can use Dismaker X to copy the Yosemite-Installer on a SD-card. Then change the start-up drive to your sd-card and reboot. And I deleted the hard disk from the Yosemity-installer before the re-install the os - so keep a backup of all your data on an external drive.
