Where is my sidebar in itunes 12.0.1.26?

So, just updated to the newest version. Once I got it pointed at the correct location for my files, I noticed that I can no longer see the sidebar. I looked through all of the preferences and menu options and it's not there.

Is there any way to get this feature back? I'm not interested in the "new" views and certainly don't find them appealing in any way/shape/form. I prefer to keep my system "sane" and the same all of the time.

Hope some one can point me to a "hidden" option to get this turned back on again.

Thanks,

Pete

Grandfather_hoc, the sidebar is not gone. It's limited to playlists and moving films and music to iDevices. Al other icons of the sidebar have been moved to a top bar and are always in reach with one click if you need them. I don't see the problem many others do on this forum.

On the contrary, In the new way of presenting the same functionality from the old sidebar, now combined in the new playlist-sidebar and a top bar, is an improvement for people who use iTunes to manage music and movies. They have their playlists right beside their library. In iTunes 11 they had to scroll down every time they wanted to add or change anything to their playlists or move other category out of the sidebar.

The new look is an improvement, just as long as you make the effort to see how things work in the new app, instead of whining about every change that has been made. With that attitude mankind would still be chasing mammals with bows and arrows.

I'm sure it's all sparkly and lovely if all you do is make playlists (which I don't) but it's bugger all use if you used the sidebar to wirelessly manage and sync multiple devices, which now don't show up at all unless connected by cable. I'm sure it's lovely for you but not an improvement for everybody and some of the whining is not without good cause. The new version without the comprehensive sidebar is worse than useless as far as I am concerned.

amarczyk, if you read the forum-discussions here, you might have noticed that there's a problem with wireless communication with iDevices. That's a bug, that's really annoying, and that should not happen. Criticizing Apple for this is with good cause.

But that's temporarily. That bug will be fixed soon. It has little to do with the new version being an improvement or not.

You can connect iDevices wired to your mac. They will show up in your sidebar. And you will notice it all will work just fine.

The annoying bug is the issue here, not the changes made in iTunes 12.

Nonsens, I use iTunes to manage my iPhone and iPad just as you do. I just look beyond a bug that will be fixed within a few week. I'll survive those week just fine, wiring up some devices every once in a while. And again Grandfather_hoc, the sidebar is not gone. Alle functionality is still there (combined in the sidebar and the topbar, but not very different at all).

Come on people, there are worse things in live.

But the sidebar is only there for playlists and iDevices. I used the sidebar all the time. Why change what wasn't a problem?

I did send feedback to Apple about iTunes 12. As I read other comments in the forum, iTunes 12 seems to have a lot of problems for some people. So far I have only found it to be just a change for change's sake. Is it just me, or has Steve Jobs' vision been lost when he died?

iTunes feedback sent 15 minutes ago:

Where is the sidebar???

It was so convenient, so you had to remove it? Not all changes made by Apple are well considered, and some are most unwelcome. And not all changes are progress.

Does anyone there talk with the customers and ask them whether they want a feature removed?

Unfortunately, the iTunes "upgrade" got installed without me first looking into its effects and changes. Too late now! VERY DISAPPOINTED.

Your iTunes Version list below doesn't even show V 12. or the iPhone 6.

Not very impressive. Steve Jobs would not be pleased.

Count me on the list of folks who are disappointed with iTunes 12 lack of the classic sidebar. Having to do twice as many clicks to go from music to podcasts is hard to justify as an improvement. There are many videos on YouTube that detail how to downgrade from iTunes 11 to 10.7 The same procedure can be followed to downgrade from iTunes 12 to 11.4. You will want to go back to the latest version of iTunes before you "upgraded" below is one of many links available. Occasionally, iTunes will still continue to ask if you want to upgrade to version 12. This cannot be avoided.

It is 10 minutes of hoops to jump through. If you want the classic sidebar back, revert back to the version that had it.

Without further ado..

Thanks Highway_man, I already downgraded to 11.4 and won't be upgrading again until they bring back the sidebar.

It's ridiculous in this day and age that we should have to fight this. Apple can build their fancy new views and even make it the default. I'd still gripe but would continue to upgrade. But taking away the ability to set up views that work for users who know exactly what they want is just silly. Hopefully there are enough complaints that someone at Apple will actually pay attention.
