Java SE 6 on Yosemite?

I just updated my mac to Yosemite and the following message keeps popping up "To open 'this Java application' you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime." No matter if I click "ok" or "More Info..." (the only two options) it keeps coming up. Is there some way I can find out what app is triggering the message or fix the issue?

Java 8 is the recommended version for Yosemite: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre8-downloads-2133155.h tml

I don't think the link is dead it is Safari and javascript.

If the page does not open (seems to be blank in Safari), you can select shift+command+option while clicking the link, you can also do a cut and paste. Or go to http://support.apple.com and via the search (top right with magnifying glass) type in

"Java for OS X"

Then you can find the page with the title "Java for OS X 2014-00"

Otherwise try a different browser to get there.

Hi. I followed your advice (thank you very much) and now Photoshop opens again on my mac 2011. I read something about a security issue with this download. I have also downloaded Java 8 which didn't open Photoshop for me. Is there something else I should be doing re security? Getting sooo fed up with all these updates and incompatibly issues. Putting me right off apple! My iPhone will once again no longer play in my Sony dock station. Thanks for your help. P

Hi all, I just tried to open an older image file that I created using Adobe Illustrator CS6. Guess what, when I do I get the following popup:

To open "Adobe Illustrator CS6" you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime.

My options are either clicking OK or More Info..., both of which are useless. When I click OK nothing happens and More Info opens a blank Apple web page, which presumably doesn't exist anymore. I have Java Standard Edition version 8 update 25, build 1.8.0_25-b17 installed, which I believe to be the newest version available from Oracle. Do I really have to install version 6? Can versions 6 and 8 be installed together at the same time? I apologise for not reading the entire thread, but there are a lot of posts so far and I'm not sure if a solution has been posted yet. Basically I don't wanna go back to JSE 6 all together, but would like to be able to run Adobe Illustrator.
