Yosemite breaks Ricoh/Lanier Aficio SP C240DN

Hi all,

Upgraded my late 2012 Mini to Yosemite, getting "Stopped - 'Filter' failed" when trying to print to my C240DN. The same occurred with the Yosemite betas and resolved with Mavericks. I've installed the both the Ricoh and Lanier driver updates to no avail as the C240DN is not supported by them. I'm using the latest available Mavericks driver from the Ricoh/Lanier site.

Any help greatly appreciated, thanks!

Me too - with a Ricoh Aficio MP C3001. We have several Ricoh printers at the office, though, and this is the only one I can't connect to anymore. I can't even set it up again, because it says there is a problem with the connection. The printers I can connect to are hosted on other computers. The one I can't connect to I would print to directly using its IP address.

Found that if I installed the printer using LPD Protocol and the Printer name (RNPplusMACaddress.local) and chose the Generic PCL Driver, I could at least print in black and white. I got the printer name by typing the IP address of the printer into my browser and looking through the settings available there. Hope this helps.

Hello All,

Today I had the reply from Ricoh:

As the Ricoh Aficio SP C240SF has a GDI controller this would mean this printer will not have the Yosemite update (this was the information Ricoh sent to me). The advise was to downgrade back to Mavericks (as you know, this is not so easy). I must say i'm very disappointed about Ricoh about how they handle with this issue. This is still an actual printer that you can buy still at this moment in stores and find on their website, but they don't support the most actual OS!?

I would rather buy a new (not Ricoh) printer if this is really the case!

Did anyone have other information then me, because i sure hope there is more optimistic information..

No new information to help those without RIcoh printer f(x).

The tone of the preceding conciliatory (and stalling) communication suggests a printer manufacturer that isn't willing to trade proactive OS X software support for your product investment. Expect this to reoccur next year. The Yosemite beta was out for 4.5 months. Apple did not keep this a secret from Ricoh, who certainly had time to sort out their driver code for a Yosemite release.

For those of you that want Ricoh freedom, and cannot afford to wait for them to figure out their driver situation, you may consider the latest open source Ricoh printer support at Open Printing. This page has two selection menus to identify Ricoh and the printer model. This solution may require the installation of Ghostscript, and or CUPS printer drivers.

I have found that I am also unable to print on my Ricoh SP C231SF since upgrading to OS X Yosemite 10.10

I have spent hours on with apple support trying to resolve the issue only to be told that its a problem for Ricoh.

Surely Apple need to man up here and take some responsibility for the conflict in software that their upgrade has caused and to be quite honest I think that it is totally irresponsible for Apple to knowingly cause people to be unable to use their printers as a result of their software changes.

I have spoken to Ricoh support who have said the same as previous people have reported, that Ricoh Japan will be looking at updating Drivers in the coming weeks however they are not planning all printer driver updates.

Really unhappy with Apple at the moment!!

Can't even get to talk to someone at Apple about it now.

Even Tim Cook, Apple UK CEO is ignoring my emails.

Thanks, I will try.

The whole issue is unbelievably by both parts, I am trying to print at my Medical School hospital network so I do not have other choice please help! from Apple and Ricoh. This is just their responsibility they are the ones that should have their products ready to work, Yosemite beta versions have been out for months, and what is worse is that the same issue is also affecting other printers so fix it please and give us a solution.
