Macbook Air (mid-2012) won't pair with iPhone 6

I didn't see anyone ask this so far.

I checked the criteria for Continuity between devices. My Macbook Air and my iPhone 6 (obviously) meet the criteria. (By the way, I wasn't able to AirDrop ever because my devices wouldn't pair).

1) I make sure both the Macbook and iPhone has Hand-Off checked. I am running OS X Yosemite & iOS 8.

2) I turn Bluetooth on for both devices

3) Macbook shows up on iPhone list on Bluetooth and vice versa.

4) Try to connect on Macbook, clicked "Pair" the iPhone. The message comes up to check the code and pair if the code matches.

5) I check iPhone. Code matches.

6) I pair and it would say the connection was unsuccessful because the MacBook isn't within range. Ok. I did all suggestions Apple gave on the help page like moving the device closer or finding the interference. I cannot see any interference. Both the iPhone and Macbook connect to my same Bluetooth speaker perfectly fine (just for the record). And the phone is literally a few inches away from the Macbook.

That doesn't work, then I tried again and at one point, the popup message changed to "not connected because Macbook Air not supported".

Clearly, this doesn't just "work" for me and it's really annoying me. Is anyone else having this problem? I was looking forward to this feature for months.

Same thing here. Upgraded today to Yosemite, now my rMBP mid 2014 won't pair with my iPhone 6 iOS 8.0.2.

Also Handoff isn't working at all, and I cannot airdrop to any mac using yosemite or to my iphone. This leads me to believe that there could be some underlying bluetooth problem.

When I go to the airdrop folder on my mac, my wifi connection degrades rapidly. Ping to the router goes from 1-2 ms, to above 100ms, and even timeouts.

Hello,

I have the exact same problem with a MacBook Pro 15' (late 2013) running under Yosemite and a brand-new iPhone 6+ (iOS 8.0.2). The pairing goes fine but the two devices won't 'connect' (my Mac will connect for a split second or two with the iPhone, and then disconnect ("Network is unavailable - make sure network access has been enabled").

The Bluetooth, however, works fine with other types of devices (a Bose speaker, a Philips pair of headphones).

I'm at my wits' ends, but it is rather comforting to see that many others seem to be facing the same problem. Must be a software issue, which will hopefully get sorted out when a new update is released (how soon?).

However, I can make and receive phonecalls on my Mac, as this does not require a Bluetooth connection, only Wifi.

It's a broken record: Same issue here, Yosemite and IOS 8.0.2. All phone calls and messages are appearing. Pairing with iPhone 5s is not working. The message and code appear as the device is discovered and then it says "macbook air not supported." Also, the iPhone is not letting delete my previous macbook air connection prior to the Yosemite upgrade. The "forget this device" option is greyed out. I've read on some other forums that the issue may be with the iCloud drive, but have found no solutions yet. Also, I haven't seen anything saying that iOS 8.1 has a fix for the problem

It depends what you are pairing for. No iPhone has ever been able to use Bluetooth for file transfers, and I have seen no indication that this feature has been added. There are several ways to transfer files to and from iPhones, but Bluetooth is not one of them.
