The problem is with iTunes & not Yosemite. I have since updated my wife's MacBook Air but did not update iTunes and the older iTunes is working fine in Yosemite. I also deleted the new iTunes on my iMac including the package contents and reinstalled the new iTunes, still doesn't open. So annoyin, let's hope someone with bit of clout at Apple reads these posts so that something is sorted sooner rather than later.

I had the same problem, fixed it with solutions by other posters in a similar thread: iTunes doesn't open after Yosemite is installed

What fixed it for me was the following:

1) delete iTunes via the following Terminal commands

cd /Applications/ (Then hit Enter key - This places your action into the Applications folder.)

sudo rm -R iTunes.app (Hit Enter key)

2) download iTunes directly from the download site (with Chrome)
3) installing iTunes

4) updating Java

5) = iTunes opened great!

Perhaps the first thing you want to try is updating Java (go to System Preferences -> Java (wait for the Java Control Panel to open) -> Update.

Still have all my library untouched after doing all this, so I assume you shouldn't have to worry about losing anything 😉😉

OK, final solution. First make sure Java is up to date by going to control panels Java as this seems to be were the problem is. When you've updated Java, control click on the iTunes application icon in applications (not in dock) go to 'show package contents' click on the contents folder and get info, change the permissions to 'read & write' once done move the contents folder to the trash. Now get info for the iTunes app and change do the same with the permissions, and move the app to the trash (I also removed the icon from the dock). At this point you can empty the trash now or later.

Now go to the Apple website, downloads and iTunes download, click download. For those that have never downloaded anything before a dmg image will appear in your downloads (or you may have chosen a different place for downloads such as desktop), locate the 'iTunes12.0.1.dmg' image and double click, a folder will open, double click the install iTunes and follow the on screen instructions. If you have removed the icon from the dock you will have to replace it by clicking on the new iTunes app icon in applications and dragging the icon to the dock.

Sounds a bit long but I have tried to make it plain english for those that are not as computer literate and those that don't like to use 3rd party apps like appzapper.

Hi,

I've encountered the exact same problem.

iTunes wouldn't start up at all, even tough it had the correct version.

By browsing to the applications contents and running the itunes exec it would work.

Also running it through Terminal would work. But simply not by clicking the iTunes.app

However i've fixed it! by manually setting read and write so that you can delete the iTunes.app. (for a tut see http://www.tekrevue.com/tip/uninstall-itunes/)

Then manually Install iTunes again by downloading it at http://www.apple.com/nl/itunes/download/

Then it worked fine with me! Hope it helps.
