Where is option to have side bar in iTunes 12 ?

Since, 11 iTunes has been disabling my option of having the sidebar... which is annoying... but now I cant find the option to have it again... since I found this better and easier to use than that ribbon of silly icons... It is a pain in the neck dragging a song to my iPod, in its specific playlist(still don't know how to do it properly in this new version) ... This is why I had the side bar, it was constant to the GUI design of Finder...

Please enable the option to have iTunes sidebar again... the flat GUI is irritating as it is, but getting rid of the option to have the sidebar just made me crazy, mad and insane.

Except for the latest AppleTV update, which is the first update in years that I immediately liked, I've yet to be pleasantly surprised by any Apple software update. Going all the way back to iTunes 8, when Apple began to strip useful functionality out of iTunes. I'm simply baffled about how Apple arrives at their conclusions. For sure they don't talk to you or me.

There's nothing new in v12 that appeals to me. Not only is the sidebar thing a hassle, but the display fonts are smaller than ever (and yes, I've already set the List size in preferences.) Apple is determined to push away older CUSTOMERS like me, who've been with Apple since 1985. They do what they want and they simply don't care about what their customers want. They just don't.

I installed v12 on my laptop, which is my test machine for these sorts of updates. So I ask, does Yosemite force Itunes 12 on you? Regardless, I suspect my main desktop will remain on Mavericks for some time to come...

I see your point of view and agree with quite a bit but you have to understand that you are not the only user in question. Most of what they do is to simplify the user interfere and make it less cluttered. It will always be a transition for someone who is used to the old way but some times you just have to bite the bullet and do it. I actually like the new feel of 12 however I have not yet had time to discover if there are things that I can no longer do. I actually did not like the old iTunes thought it was clunky.

Thank F that I didn't upgrade anything at all so far!

Thank you all!

I wouldn't be able to live without that sidebar with all the devices and all my playlists.

I think Apple is basically trying to force you to always be looking to buy stuff from the iTunes Store, and that is why they want to dominate your screen with stuff from there and links to there - Genius - so you're always constantly reminded - Notified - of stuff you can buy, because people are impulsive and stupid and can't resist.

I've never bought anything from the Store other than a couple of Apps, I'll never buy video or music from there (who needs to own anything on their devices these days when you can just rent and throw away in streaming, or get it all for free?)

Don't get suckered by the Proprietary Machine that is Apple

That's exactly what I want to do! … I've got the iPad Air, the to big iPhone 6 and the good old iPod Classic.

It should be possible to organize your devices individually! Redesigning a software is great, but by putting the sidebar away witch is part the way

I use my iTunes, they didn't "simplify" anything … Don't keep the the rubbish horizontal browser, keep what the customers are actually USING.

AND what happened to the Tv-Series Layout - I can't show the Discription in a non-list way anymore?! Wasn't this the big thing about your last itunes?

Top Gear e.g. is bough via itunes but itunes displays some episodes in one and otters in a second folder… The same Series devieded into two, by no reason?

Even the icon is red now. Why? …

Downgraded it back to iTunes 11 until someone else figures out how to enable side bar.

Care to offer details on how to downgrade? Thanks!

Another sad aspect of this whole thing is thinking about all of the engineering hours spent making changes that no one (or at least a lot of people) do not want. What helpful sorts of things could have been developed with that time and energy?

It's not about me. It's about Apple's attitude. Too small fonts and no way to increase the size is stupid and makes life hard for us older people. So I upgrade iTunes and now need to buy new glasses? Really? You can change the size in the "list" (and still too small at the largest setting) but not the text in the sidebar - this has been an issue for several versions now. Apple simply does not care, that's obvious.

As for clunky or not, people went crazy when 11 came out and I didn't like it, either. But I got used to it. If you've been involved in computing for as long as I have (35 years) believe me, you don't own the monopoly of being able to flow and accept change. I don't appreciate your holier-than-thou lecture. 😀
