Apple TV cannot connect to iTunes library on MacBook Pro after upgrade to Yosemite/iTunes 12

Does anyone else have this problem?


After upgrading my MacBook Pro to Yosemite / iTunes 12, my Apple TV cannot connect to it's iTunes library anymore.


I have tried the following:


Logging in/out of Apple TV and MacBook Pro's Home Sharing/iTunes account

Turning on/off my wireless router/modem

Turning on/off the Apple TV and MacBook Pro

A combination of the above


Nothing works.


Is this a bug or am I to wait for an update to Apple TV?

You are not alone. I have had this issue today too and tried the same troubleshooting steps you did. When selecting the Computers app on my Apple TV, I get an error message says "Could not connect to" my library. I have two Apple TVs and both give the same message. However, it's only my mid-2011 iMac having this issue. My Macbook Air, which is less than a year old, is communicating with the Apple TV normally.

This is really weird and strange. I checked this thread last Saturday and I didn't see posted any solution or workaround for this problem.


I had the same exact problem right after I upgraded my MacBook Pro to OS X Yosemite Version 10.10 and iTunes 12.0.1.


I went to iTunes -> Preferences -> Sharing and checked "Share my library on my local network" and selected "Share Entire Library".

I think I did also rebooted my MacBook Pro after a couple of times.


I restarted my AppleTV same problem. I try to force the AppleTV to check for a Software Update and the AppleTV software was up to date and still the same problem trying to access my iTunes Library in my MacBook Pro.


After that I think I rebooted my MacBook Pro 2-3 times. I had the option in the AppleTV to update the software automatically.


I just tried again on the AppleTV and finally it was able to see my iTunes Library since I upgraded to OS X Yosemite Version 10.10 and iTunes 12.0.1 and I am able to finally play my music.


This is strange and frustrating not knowing what was the root cause of the problem and what fixed it.

Thanks for all the tips. I have tried everything with limited success. Music, TV shows and Movies work fine now. But cant get the Aperture photo library to show up on the ATV. Very frustrating....


I have the latest ATV3, Mac Mini (Latest) with Yosemite, iTunes 12


Should have stayed with the old ATV1, that worked great for the past 6 years, wanted the latest and now stuck.

I'm in the same boat, tried bondbond's work around, didn't work, tried changing computer names, rebooting, reseting pram, turning home sharing on and off again... yadda yadda yadda. I expect apple will release a fix soon, these posts can't be going unnoticed. Also note, that this is consistent on my 2012 Retina MacBook Pro, my wife's 2012 Macbook Air, my son's 2009 Macbook Pro and our HTPC (Mac Mini 2012). All computers can see and share each other's libraries in iTunes, but none are showing up on the AppleTV in the Living Room or in our bedroom.

The suggestions in the this post worked for me to restore connection from ATV 3. My ATV 2 has not been impacted at all, but then it hasn't been upgraded to the new version of iOS.

However, today after 48 hours the problem is back. Reboot the router, reboot the ATV 3 and away it goes again. Still the ATV 2 continues to work fine!!


Apple what have you done to ATV and its operating system???!!??!!😟

Had the same issue... signing out/in to Home Sharing didn't work. Even changing the computer name alone didn't solve it... I had to change the name of my iTunes Library as well. Since then, haven't had an issue. I'm on the phone with Apple's Media team right now. I'm hoping they corroborate what I've done and that they say it will "permanently fix" the dropped connections.

Nothing worked for me.A bit of fiddling with my setting on my Mac Pro network got it to work.


Go to System preferences

Network

Click on WIFI

Advanced

Proxies

Now at the bottom there is "bypass proxy settings for these hosts & domains" mine had something like local etc in there.

i deleted that and,went to the apple tv and went to settings,went back to my library and it worked.


I really hope this helps some people.

I did not read all the responses, so apologies if this "fix" has been given, but after upgrading to Yosemite I too could no loner utilize the iTunes on my Apple TV. I went into preferences and confirmed both the name of my Mac and then to my Apple TV. I found that Apple automatically changed my computer name to iMac.local I changed it and then went to the Apple TV under general and changed the name of my Apple TV to the same new changed name. Snap! The iTunes and Apple TV worked once again. Easy fix. It had nothing to do with checking the router, IP, etc. I called Apple support and was on the phone with a tech for nearly 1 hour. Unfortunately he could not correct the problem. I did some searches on line and talked to a few of my friends who know more than I do about Apple products. They confirmed that by changing the name might work. Well it did for me. Hope it works for anyone else out there. Good Luck!
