address browser in Yosemite Mail - it's GONE?

Arrgghh - WHY does Apple do stuff like this?

I have long been a user of Apple Mail, and I ALWAYS have the Address Browser window open down the left side of the app. From the Window/Address Browser menu item. I could flick from one group of contacts to another, I could see which email address was being used - and select which one I wanted to use - and I could select multiple contacts.

But in the new Yosemite Mail - IT'S GONE!!!???

I have searched high and low, and I cannot find any way to display a list of contacts' email addresses in the Mail app.

Having the Contacts app open at the same time just doesn't cut it - it doesn't display just a lit of email addresses, for example, like the Address Browser did.

This is one change that I am now really regretting from the upgrade to Yosemite.

My Mail app has been CRIPPLED! How the **** can you have a mail app that doesn't have direct access to your list of email addresses from directly within the app?

What am I missing here? Where has the Address Browser gone, and how do I get it back?

And WHY, for f*ck's sake, does Apple keep on DOING stuff like this - like getting rid of the sidebar in iTunes, for example? Why remove something that works? Is it just change for the sake of change?

BUT I NEED MY ADDRESS BROWSER BACK IN MAIL.... aarrgggghhhhh!!!!!!!

In case my question above isn't clear, I was talking about the Address Panel. I called it the Address Browser, but I just checked on a friend's Mac - NOT upgraded to Yosemite - and it is the Address Panel, from the WINDOW menu that has gone missing.

Any help as to where I can find it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Here's my post from another thread on the same topic:

I have the same complaint. In Mavericks Mail, when you initiated a new message, you had the opportunity to customize the toolbar so that you had an Address icon. Clicking on that icon got you a drop-down list of all your contacts. You could then select multiple addressees and indicate whether you wanted those addresses in the To, Cc or Bcc field. That ability is gone. ***, over? Why take that capability away?

Now, you have to have Contacts open and you have to select and drag addressees into the appropriate address field. Or, you can get something similar to what we used to have by selecting on of the address fields. When you do, a "+" sign appears to the far right of the field. Clicking on the "+" sign gets you what looks quite similar the the list you used to get with the Address icon. EXCEPT, you can only add one recipient at a time. you have to click the "+" sign again and again to add additional recipients

Like I asked above. Why this change? Toward what end? (BTW, the little icon just to the left of the paper clip icon below, is what's gone in Yosemite)

This is a great nuisance. In fact similar problem occurred after the last major change. However I think I have found a way around it (until Apple sorts it out - please!!!).

Open a new message. Then open 'Contacts' in the Dock. If then wanting to send to a group (as I often do) - select the group. Pick a name and then hit 'Select All' in Edit. Once the 'group' is highlighted - slide the lot across to the address box - 'To', 'Bcc' or whatever. Seems to work - at least until the Apple folks listen to the users.

Good luck.

I wish I could tell you the answer but I have the same question as everybody else. How this could be overlooked is just unbelievable. I actually was beta testing Yosemite and decided when I saw this icon missing to drop it and go back to Mavericks. I never expected to see this missing in the final release. I hope somebody wakes the flub up soon…

Thanks Robin and Phinias.

I think the main problem is that you can't now do a multi-select (Cmd-click), and simply run down a list of email addresses picking the ones you want to use from those contacts with more than one email address.

I really hope they bring back the full Address Panel from previous versions. Phinias - as a beta tester, do you have a channel or route for feeding comments back to the Apple team? If so, could you send a smoke signal up the line as to why they removed the Address Panel? Because what they have now doesn't do even half of what could be done with the Address Panel...
