After learning what it took to finally get my computer to boot, I downloaded and installed Yosemite on my husbands computer. Before I installed it, I disabled the startup items. The install took about 20 minutes (not including download time) and went off without a hitch.
Thank you Alfonso just deleted antivirus and at long last I can get back on my MacBook 🙂
Any suggestions for user of File Vault?
I can't enter the safe mode. 😠
Hi,
I had the same problem as GunBall82. I followed the steps you have posted on this thread. However, I can only log in in safe mode after following your steps but still being stuck with in the apple logo screen and progress bar in normal booting. Mine is a new Macbook Pro. I haven't set up the "time machine" yet. It would be most grateful if anyone can help me to solve this error!
Hi Valerie. If you have antivirus software on your macbook i found that removing it and rebooting sorted it out on my macbook. hope this helps
I couldn't safe boot either. After a day of searching, I've fouund that resetting the PRAM (parameter random access memory) worked for me.
PRAM contains Startup Disk settings that may need a zap to fix some booting issues not related to hardware. Start up your computer holding the Command-Option-P-R keys, then keep them held until your computer restarts and you hear two startup chimes (release them when finished). If your computer boots normally, check your settings in System Preferences—many were probably reset.
Good luck!
Thanks for your hint but doesn't works for me :-(
I will go back to Mavericks now.
I would recommend a clean install of 10.10.
There are just too many upgrades and improvements that make it worthwhile.
Improved Wifi and stability of Mail are indispensable to me.
The computer is also more responsive, somehow I regained 30GB of space etc....
Clean Install....
Regards
Took me about two hours to install. WiFi was a bit sketchy at first but now works well.
I just spent an hour or two with 3 different Apple chat helpers online. I am having same issues as everyone else downloading Yosemite onto my year old MacBook Air. My download stopped in same place for days. Restarted computer several times to no avail. I did all the things people have mentioned here on the site and none of them worked for me. I did a reboot, but did NOT work. Re-installed it and it did the same thing. When I did get back to Mavericks, Yosemite partially downloaded and my desktop looked different and all my desktop folders and files were missing and I could not open mail, or any of the menus. Apple Chap Support told me I should take it in to the Genius Bar if this last download does not work. I am trying to install for the 4th time, but it says it will take 18 hours. WHAT???? Is that normal? Should I see if that works or cancel out????? 18 hours seems a bit extreme???!!!
I did that and I had the same problems.. 😟
I have been downloading now for some 20 hours and it is only a third downloaded!
HI
SO I see some have fixed the issues whilst others havent. I'm doing my fifth install after chatting to Apple advisors so I thought I'd share my suggestions.
1. Power up holding Shift+R, once you have the utility option reinstall OS, there may have been an issue with the download
failing that
2. Remove power supply, hold power button for 10 secs (yes unplugged), insert power supply, power up at the same time holding P+R+cmd+alt( better known as option). Keep holding until the Mac chimes twice and let go, it will chime once more and then boot. Apparently for those who place there's into sleep mode instead of powering off sometimes the power module or hdd needs a reset. Advised to do this monthly but a power related issue shouldn't happen often
failing that
3. There is a known issue with mcafee antivirus this needs to be uninstalled prior to downloading the new OS. There is a uninstall folder it simply cannot be dragged to trash and deleted. Either way once uninstalled you must them once again follow point 1 and reinstall OS
Im currently at point 3 so either way I'll update on progress following download
Thanks
Ok so final update
Option 3 didn't work, not because its not the answer but because i didn't remove mcafee fully. After speaking to a senior assistant he talked me through removing hidden mcafee files from Launch Agents and Launch Demons situated in the onboard libaries
My iMac is now fully functional
Happy Days :-)
While I finally installed Yosemite, NOW all programs and actions are so slow and tedious. Has anyone else experienced this?
How long does it take to install yosemite? Apple logo is up and the installation bar stopped half way. Been like this for 1hour now! HELP!!!
