Slow to start but I seem to be getting a speedier response
Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
My 5 month old $1400 iMac (especially for graphics) desktop took almost SIX HOURS to install!! I am on WiFi. I can't imagine why it took that long to install, but it did. I finally got to bed at 8 a.m. I never would have started it if I had known in advance. I expected maybe several minutes at most.
I had problem with iMac after installing Yosemite. I had problem with login. My problem was solved by turning OFF the McAfee anti-virus software.
I'm still on Mavericks with my late 2009 iMac and Early 2011 MBP and after reading this thread, I'm in no hurry to mess up my Macs. Seems a horrible experience.
Thanks, guys! Worked like a champ. Up and running again!
I tried to installing 10.10.1 today over 10.9.5. Fail.
First boot got stuck halfway through the progress bar on the grey Apple screen. Spinning ball after a while and had to hold the power button to hard shutdown.
Safe mode boot got to the login screen, then spinning ball before I could type my username. Had to hold the power button to hard shutdown.
Reset the nvram with Cmd+Opt+P+R and then managed a full boot and login. System seemed to stall a lot and then degenerated to not working properly at all (unable to launch apps from dock, Spotlight sluggish, Finder and various other apps showing as not responding in Activity Monitor, "sudo reboot" not evening getting to the password prompt, etc). Had to hold the power button to hard shutdown.
Now I'm restoring my pre-Yosemite system from a disk image. Thank goodness I backed it up first. Looks to me like Yosemite is far from being prime-time ready.
I'm having the same problem on my 2010 Imac.
Tried safe mode but nothing works.
The installation is running for about 26 hours and still on the middle.
I watched a video with someone that left it running for 30 hours and it worked.
I will try it.
Apple!!! Any kind of help???
I notice little if any difference on my Early 2011 MBP. I installed it about two weeks ago after getting a new iMac with Yosemite factory installed.
This should not be. Since my DSL is ridiculously slow (2Mbps), I used a neighbor's (with her permission) and her's is a slow 6 Mbps but better than mine). Yosemite took maybe 3 hours to install on my Early 2011 MacBookPro.
I downloaded Yosemite from the Apple Store to my late 2009 MacBook Pro on Saturday 17th 2015.
I started the upgrade at 11:30 and at 11:37 it said "about 22 minutes remaining". In the event, it actually took an hour and a half to complete the installation.
My Yosemite upgrade appears to be a total success. It's like having a new laptop!
I rebooted in safe mode, turned off wi-fi, then restarted. No problems after that. Thanks guys bout to rip my face off.
I tried to perform a clean install of Yosemite on my early 2011 MBP and i had the same problem, the apple logo and the progress bar stuck at 50%.
After "Googling" and looking up solutions i thought maybe it was because Yosemite does a hardware check before installing and that was why it didn't wanna finish the install. so i forced a shutdown and went in recovery mode and tried to switch the Trim enabler (I don't know if it worked), then gave it another try.
No dice.
I then saw people say that you have to let it load and that it is normal for it to take long hours for that progress bar to finish. I then let it run overnight, and to my surprise I woke up to a Language pick menu screen!
I am now on the install screen of Yosemite (with the Yosemite logo and progress bar), hopefully this one doesn't get stuck either...
Hope this helps and good luck!
Thanks a lot, that fixed it. Was getting a bit worried!
How long does it take to install yosemite? Apple logo is up and the installation bar stopped half way. Been like this for 1hour now! HELP!!!
