OSX Yosemite Wifi issues

Hi there,

I upgraded my Macbook Pro Retina 15" (mid 2014 revision) to OS X Yosemite last night and am now having issues when using my home WiFi connection. Whilst it connects to either the 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz network, it is basically unusable. Web pages take minutes to load (if they even load at all), dropbox doesn't sync because it can't get a connection and even trying to get to the router config page is extremely slow and hit/miss.

Tethering to my iPhone seems to work ok, as does using my home network via wired ethernet.

Are any others having problems with Yosemite? Wifi was working fine on Mavericks.

Our router is only 2 months old is is supposedly one of the "best" AC wifi router currently available (ASUS RT-AC87R).

Neither the 2013 iMac or the mid 2012 MBP in our home is able to use the internet. Connection doesn't drop as other have reported, it just doesn't go anywhere. Browser status bar typically stays on "Resolving Address".

We have an Ubuntu 12.10 desktop in the basement and also a Windows 2012 Server, neither of those machines have any problems accessing the WAN.

From day one after Yosemite my wifi drop every 2 or 3 min.

The only think who solve my wifi problem was fix the router in just one band.

At home I fix on N and in my office I fix on G because my wifi printer don't work on N.

After that no more drops, it was + or - 3 weeks ago!

I did the update to 10.10.1 and change the router to auto B,G,N and start drop again...!!! Then I return to a fix band and again no more drops.

I hope this help some one...

I have also lived with this wifi problem, however I have no problem other than when I am in one location and working on a Speedport W921v router. This is very strange as it works for a few days and then starts dropping out and I had to reconnect manually. I have tried numerous suggestions made by people in this discussion and none have worked. The only work around I found was to run Network Diagnostics in the background and this delivered steady wifi access. Yesterday in desperation I rebooted the router and left it for 3 min off power and had steady wifi for 6 hours. Then drop out, Downloaded the latest update 10.10.1 late yesterday and this morning more drop out only difference was it automatically reconnected, so again rebooted and now the wifi is steady and running. How long for? Router is fine in my view the problem seems to be inside Yosemite when it confuses itself and starts to disconnect and reconnect from the router?

Very much the case, one location shows the drop out problem, so it is an OS - router interaction.

Started for me with a Mavericks update a few months ago, continues in Yosemite.

I suspect more and more people are getting caught with the drop out issue, which I also suspect is different to the slow connection / Bluetooth 2.4 GHz issue.

You will find threads on Mavericks' WiFi drop out too.

I have dug deep, but not found the cause within Mac OS, which is where it must lie.

I only occasionally use my MBAir but at the weekend I did notice the inability to connect to my TimeCapsule for backups or the storage area I keep on it also. No issues so far with wifi connection, initially it takes a second or two rather than instant but otherwise no issues.

I use the TimeCapsule for a wifi base rather than the BT Hub as there are so many BT hubs in my locality and this confused all my devices, infact, I find it hard to join any BT based hub anywhere on my iPhone. I blame that on BT.

My solution, was turning both devices off and restarting, they then connected for my use. However, I have to do this everytime I want to connect to the timecapsule storage after putting the MBAir to sleep.

I have been told by Apple that I shouldnt be using my TimeCapsuleG2 for both backup and separate storage but when I bought it, thats what the marketing on the Apple website told me I could do.

Turned off bluetooth and like magic all internet traffic was blazing again!! Turned the bluetooth on again and it was still good. Don't know for how long this will last.

(This is after install of the latest update: 10.10. i already had some wifi problems before)

you are on a 2.4GHZ WLAN. Switch it to 5GHZ and watch your bluetooth issues vanish like magic.

Bluetooth does not interfere with 5GHZ WLAN. It does interfere A LOT with 2.4 GHZ. But ONLY sometime and that 'Sometime' is when the radio channel happens to be the same as the WIFI-One. And that switches a lot. So use a 5GHZ WLAN whenever you can

Since Yosemite, I've had troubles connecting to my Time Capsule wireless. What I've noticed is that we couldn't connect to the 2.4ghz or it would drop off constantly. We could use the 5ghz with no problem. I switched off the 5ghz band in the TC configuration and had more success with the 2.4ghz. The ATT router only has a 2.4ghz band and it works fine.

At first I though my TC wireless was failing, but after seeing all the problems everyone is having, I assume it's an issue with Yosemite and not all routers. My TC is an older one. I reverted to just using the 5GHz band and don't try connecting to the 2.4ghz TC. I use the ATT Uverse router 2.4GHz band also so everyone will have a choice.

I hadn't tried connecting to the 2.4GHz on the TC since the upgrade to Yosemite. I may have to check that out to see if there are any improvements.

Same Macbook Pro Retina, actually I hadn't much trouble before using 10.10, just upgraded to 10.10.1 and now my connection has become incredibly slow (comparable with the old 56k modems, luckily it doesn't drop all the time, as I've read in some other posts). Tried restarting my Macbook router etc, but all stays the same (other devices are working at full speed). So indeed things have certainly become worse then it was before. I hope they fix this soon. First the RJ-45/ethernet port is removed from the devices, so you totally depend on wifi, and then this happens...
