bluetooth connection fails iOS 8.0.2 OS X yosemite

Hi, I'm facing connection problems trying to create a bluetooth connection between my iphone (iOS 8.0.2) and MacBook Pro with the new OS X Yosemite.

I'm not able to pair the two devices

Before updating to Yosemite 10.10.2 my Mid 2010 macbook pro worked fine with my iphone 5, text, phone calls, hand off, etc., after the update nothing is working anymore, not even the bluetooth pairing, airdrop, etc. now they have on their website that only 2012 MacBooks pro support this feature, too bad they are trying intentionally to make you buy a new model...

I am getting every day more and more disappointed on Apple... If I buy a new lap top, it might not be apple anymore, they might be trustworthy in their performance but just for a couple of years and then you start having all these compatibility issues even with their products.

I am trying to connect my Android LG LG4 phone to my MacPro (2011) to use DUN networking. It pairs just fine with my Mac, but immediately disconnects and will not connect again. I Only have LMP 0x4 on the Mac. But this is not a handoff or IOS problem. My phone connects perfectly to my phone system, car, other computers. It is a Yosemite issue.

I wonder why people always asking why. You cannot think about every possible scenario. Here is my example: Sitting at a customer or in a hotel somewhere abroad and only have ONE wifi account to be shared between ALL devices. I cannot share this one account via wifi as I am connected to the internet via wifi and thus there is only bluetooth available. Mac does offer the option to share internet via bluetooth and then you cannot use it because you cannot pair iPhone with Mac.

How about the other question: Why should you not be able to.

You'd have to ask Apple. They apparently don't think it is needed. The Bluetooth PAN network in OS X is for getting internet from a Phone or pad other than an iPhone or iPad.

They don't seem to have any way to push it the other way.

hey you know what i've been using apple since the machines were BEIGE

So have I, but I'm not sure why that is relevant.

... i've paired my phone now, but i really wanted to browse the files on the device (doesn't work).. got airdrop working too, really simple solution!

No, browsing doesn't work as that has been locked down long ago. You have to use the Continuity/Handoff functionality to access files. Applications can add/edit files they have requested and been granted access to, but you don't move anything manually except iCloud Drive, but that's not really browsing the iPhone.

Pairing serves no purpose on iOS 8+ and OS X 10.10+

Hi all,

I was also facing the same issue while linking my bose bluetooth headphones with mac book pro having osx yosemite 10.10.5. To fix this issue i removed all my old bluetooth devices from bluetooth preferences and again pair my headphones. Initially it was working intermittently but after 2-3 try it start working again for me. I hope this will help you also.

Actually very easy. A little inconvenient, but easy.
Just go to settings>general>reset>reset all settings. This will undo the "forgotten" device and allow you to re-pair it. Be careful not to hit "erase all content and settings"..you just want to reset all settings. You will NOT lose any content or data, but u will lose all ur current settings. You will also lose ur icon layout. But that's about it. Much better then a full restored.
