Possible to use iMovie HD with Yosemite?

Just upgraded to Yosemite and was extremely bummed to find that iMovie HD is not compatible. I much prefer it for simple projects. Any way to use it in Yosemite?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1), Mavericks

What's interesting to me in reading everyone's comments is that I never used version 6.0. I was new to Apple 2.5 years ago and bought a iMac 27" for the purpose of making weekly football highlight video's for our local high school team. Since that time I've probably produce over 60, 8 minute movies full of video, photo's, graphics, music, sounds effects, etc.

I have used Apple computers for more than 25 years. I have used iMovie to produce many hundreds of movies that involved extensive use of video, photos, audio, editing, etc. There is a huge difference between iMovie HD and later versions, and it is a fact that iMovie HD does not work properly on OS 10.9 and up. It will work in a limited fashion, but it will freeze up if you try doing anything serious with it -- just as others have said.

Yes, the dead hand of our past is raising havoc with our future, to turn a phrase. If I had never used HD, I would probably be very impressed, though often flummoxed, with current versions of iMovie. Over the years, did a few hundred simple videos on YouTube (Stonehore46), and the last 14 months using the current version.

Haven't used Applecare or warrantees in years, jumped ship during one of those periods when Apples customer service bottomed out.

The internet is my lifeline.

To be blocked repeatedly by "Safari can't find the server " is unacceptable.

Par-rapport to my low financial balance the purchase of a Mac (supposedly the best ! ) is very disappointing.

Going through the very long list of similar annoyance I tried the following advice and for the moment at least, it seems

that my Safari is behaving as it should.

I hope I'm not breaking a rule by posting the following. Please bear with a desperate Yosemite user.

Re: Safari DNS problem in Yosemite? Works, then slow death...in response to Carolyn Samit

Carolyn, thank you!!!

I've been having this problem since running Yosemite beta testing. I'd provided feedback on it.

Your suggestions did it for me:

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.

Click: Remove All Website Data

Then delete the cache.

Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder

Type or copy paste the following

~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db

Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.

That has not been my experience. I have made lots of movies using Mavericks and Yosemite, (I prefer Mavericks). I have had zero problems using iMovie HD 06 with iDVD 09. Some of my movies are fairly involved and up to two hours long. No problems here with iMovie HD 06.

I assume you have some of these, that were made especially for iMovie HD... I just found Slick Volume 5... one of the effects allows you to Place text anywhere on screen. I has been using my iPad to add titles, but I would lose quality. For years wished I could place titles where ever on the screen. And now I can! The other thing I just found out was a way to eliminate the "darker" screen when adding a title. Simply go to your regular iMovie HD transitions, apply the "circle closing" transition... then remove it right away by going to the iMovie title bar, by clicking on EDIT, then "cut"). As long as you keep iMovie open, none of your titles or transitions will darken. If you close iMovie -- simply follow the directions again.

And one last tip... If you want to get some NEW fonts, that are current, go to http://www.dafont.com/

They are free but you can donate to the creators. You simply add them to your Fontbook... by double clicking on them -- and they show up in your iMovie HD titles.

So 2015 current titling, that you can place anywhere and any size on the screen, and they won't darken. I was almost about to give up on iMovie HD, which would be sad, since it really is a good editor.
