Just upgraded to Yosemite and was extremely bummed to find that iMovie HD is not compatible. I much prefer it for simple projects. Any way to use it in Yosemite?

Hi Dan. My guess is that one could set up a partition in disk utility, put Mavericks on that, and boot from that partition, with the iMoviehd on it.
Until I saw your question I had just assumed apple was going to keep hd going.
My copy also won't work.

That might work but too much hassle. I guess I'll just have to struggle with the newer versions. I hate the way everything is put into one library, much preferred the old way of a separate project file for each.
Just figured it out!
Find iMovie HD.app, control click on it and View Package Contents. Open Contents/MacOS/iMovie HD. That seems to bypass the check.

Please explain more! Millions of iMovie HD users are waiting to find a way to continue using their favorite program with Yosemite.
Otherwise, I may have to get a 2nd computer to keep on Mavericks, (or switch to Windows).
He's right. Right click to get to package contents, then macos, then right click on iMovie Hd, and it opens in terminal. Just don't close that terminal window and hd opens and runs.
I will put a mp4 into it to make sure everything works.

And yup, it works great. Transitions, music, export...the old HD seems to be back.

I'm surprised to find this crew of iMovie HD loyalists because in OS 10.9.5 Mavericks I've had nothing but grief with this app.
The main issue is in working with audio. It crashes immediately if you do any audio tweaking and the HD file is corrupted/won't open any more. I've taken to assembling footage in my MacBook Air, then exporting to my wife's MacBook Pro in Snow Leopard, where HD works fine. Have others had this issue in Mavericks? Or is my app itself corrupt? I have held off with Yosemite just to hold on to what functionality remains for me in Mavericks
and assuming HD won't work at all in Yosemite. Any advice would be appreciated!

I know a large number of people using iMovie HD 06 successfully with Mavericks and Yosemite. I probably made 100+ movies with iMovie HD and Mavericks and never encountered a problem.
Using Yosemite requires the workaround below.
Yosemite has a bug that incorrectly identifies iMovie 6 (a.k.a. iMovie HD) as not compatible. iMovie HD works fine with Yosemite.
Below is a Yosemite workaround that many use until this bug is fixed.
Find iMovie HD in your applications folder.
Right click on it, and select “Show Package Contents”.
You will then find a folder named "Contents”. Open it. Then open the folder named "MacOS”.
There you will find "iMovie HD". Double-click on this, and iMovie HD will launch.
Please report the bug to Apple, the more reports, the sooner it will get fixed.

You may be doing things with iMovie HD that I do not. I know many that keep a dedicated computer with Snow Leopard so they can continue to use iMovie HD without risk.

I was refering to GeeThree's plugins. They include transitions and video FX. But yes, they are not that new and only work with the original iMovie (thank Apple).
Possible to use iMovie HD with Yosemite?
