airdrop between iOS 8 & Yosemite

Has anyone seen documentation detailing which Mac models running Yosemite will be able to airdrop to iOS 8? For example, will some of the older Macbook models which can run Yosemite be unable to do this function?

Hi all,

After spending 2.5 hours reading through various forum threads and trying many many different suggestions, here's what worked for me (I was trying to get AirDrop to work with my iPhone 6S running iOS 9.0.2 and my early-2013 Retina MacBook Pro running OS X 10.11):

  1. On the MacBook Pro, in ~/Library/Preferences, delete the file com.apple.Bluetooth.plist
  2. In ~/Macintosh HD/Users/[username]/Library/Preferences/ByHost, delete the file com.apple.Bluetooth.[random letters].plist
  3. Reboot the MacBook Pro.
  4. Start AirDrop on the iPhone and the MacBook Pro.
  5. AirDrop works!

Hope this works for you!

Make sure you have the right kind of Bluetooth: To check you have the right version of Bluetooth, click the Apple menu > Select About This Mac > System Report > Bluetooth > find "LMP Version" and check that LMP Version says 0x6. Anything lower than that is an older version of Bluetooth. "and won't work"
