No internet connection after installing yosemite

After installing Yosemite, I have no internet connection. If I hold option key, my wifi description shows Internet as unreachable, although all my bars are dark and the rest of the settings look the same. When I connected via cable, it did not show an Ethernet connection. My pc and iPad work fine,so it isn't my carrier. Anyone else have this problem and know a fix??? Thanks so much for any assistance..

Hi, aburruss,

I meet the problem as you say [

Replacing my LaunchDaemons folder caused my Mac to hang on boot (I had made a backup, and fixed by booting into single-user mode and moving the old files back into place).

].

My question is when I get into single-user mode, I can not move the old files back, because the system tells "Read-only file system", How should I do?

When you boot into single user mode, it should give you some instructions on how to mount your filesystems.

Basically, you need to check the file systems:

fsck -y

Then mount the filesystems:

mount -uw /

Then you should be at a command prompt, with a fully mounted/writable/modifyable filesystem. You will then do the necessary commands to remove the faulty directory and move the backup into place. Type 'exit', and it'll boot the system normally for you.

I've been fighting this issue since I upgraded to Yosemite on October 20. I finally saw something in another thread that has worked for now. I went into the Admin account (where internet connectivity works fine) and made my user account an Admin too, and now everything works fine.

This has been one of the most frustrating experiences I've had as a Mac user for almost 15 years. I can't believe there hasn't been a fix/patch for Yosemite OS X while so many people have struggled with the upgrade. I've always told Windows users that you never have to worry abut bugs when you accept an upgrade on the Mac operating system. Just do it when it comes in, and it works. I'm certainly going to have second thoughts after having this happen.

I have had an Admin account. Since Install.

And I have the problem. It is highly likely that your problem will return.

The problem is of Ghostly nature... It comes and goes as it please. One makes a change to a file, reboots or whatever and then it works for an hour or two or a day or 4 --- only to return again.

Appel knows about this problem but as anyone can see, it is REALLY diff. to reproduce this issue. And those kinds of bugs are the most nasty to catch and fix.

If ANYONE has a reliable way to reproduce or trigger this bug... Go to feedback Apple... And send it to them. They DO listen !!!

Agreed, switzig. I bet the next iOS and OS user updates will dropped significantly due this horrible experiences we are all having. I haven't had consistent internet connection going on one week. Zapping PRAM and Reinstalling Yosemite severals times didn't work for me but I am hopeful a fix will come this week. Hopeful.

I too have had this problem of Safari not connecting, with Mail not rendering images, not able to connect to the app store or Tune store on my iMac after installing Yosemite. Occasionally seemingly for no reason and for a very limited time things would work. I accidentally discovered that I had WiFi turned on..As I have no reason for it to be on, either I inadvertently turned it on or it was automatically turned on when I installed Yosemite. At any rate turning it off seems to have everything working the way it should and this has bee the case for a record 8 hours. Maybe this can work for you.

That's got to be frustrating for find an issue like having wifi disabled being the cause of your issues. 😮

I can assure you that my issues (and a lot of others in this thread) were far more complex and troublesome than that... which is what makes them so frustrating. In my case, WIFI was working just fine, as long as you wanted to go to all of your websites, mail servers, networked computers SOLELY by IP address. 😉

Not saying that that particular article won't solve the problem but I DID a clean install of Yosemite to begin with. And had those and still have those problems...

Just saying... Before folks go about and try all sorts of hacks which aren't going to work for sure, they should wait until Apple addresses this very obvious problem with an Update...

There are many interwoven issues here... causing all those issues... Bluetooth ON is one of them. Handoff and discoveryd another. And perhaps even more that we don't know of... If I set my router to 5GHZ Only - I am more or less troublefree. But my iPhone 4S does NOT have a 5GHZ Antenna.

There are so many issues @ hand here that it is really hard to figure out what to do...

I have tried all the hacks out there, and none of them work for more than a day or two. Only thing that helps me is 5GHZ WIFI. But I bet there are folks running 5GHZ WIFi and are still having problems.

I recently had a similar situation. Although I could connect using WiFi when using a wired connection I could not get on the internet.

I managed to fix the issue by creating a new Network Location, when using the new location both WiFi and Wired connection work perfectly. I did not make any other changes to my network or iMac settings. Hope this helps.

How to waste 4 hours....

After upgrade from Mavericks to Yosemite, no internet. what a pain.. No internet but able to ping my router and other websites by ip address. in fact able to browse to websites by ip address. (74.125.239.38 is google). clearly DNS issue.

After following some very interesting threads and bricking my machine (recovered by restoring backed up files through terminal). the solution is: a rogue (old) plist file in /System/Library/LauchDaemons. THE FILE "com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist" should not be there in Yosemite or it will kill DNS lookups.

delete it.. (back up the mDNS files just in case you are afraid to delete files directly)

best of Luck-
