Working Wacom Drivers for Yosemite?

I had this same problem when I upgraded to Mavericks and now it happens again with Yosemite. My old Wacom tablets no longer work. With Mavericks, only one of the legacy drivers would work. Some version in the middle (not the latest). With Yosemite, I can't get anything to work. Either it won't load the preference pane after install or it doesn't see anything connected.

I have two Wacom Tablets:

  • Intuos 2 XD-0608-U
  • Intuos GD-0608-U

Has anyone had any luck with getting an old Wacom to work? As before, Wacom doesn't seem interested in updating their drivers for legacy users. It's a shame because the equipment itself still works great. Any 3rd party alternative drivers out there?

I can't be the only one with this problem. Maybe if we put our brains together on this thread, we can find a solution.

Had the same problem with 4 of my Macs at work after upgrading to Yosemite.

Haven't read all this thread, but thought I would share with you a fix that came from Wacom UK directly.

Here is the transcript from them, hope it helps some of you still having issues.

To remove the Wacom driver completely from Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite, run the following steps:

Unplug the tablet from the computer.

Uninstall the driver with the WACOM TABLET UTILITY (APPLICATIONS -> WACOM TABLET - REMOVE SOFTWARE)

*** Reboot your system

*** Search for all files named com.wacom.wacomtablet.prefs for Intuos or Cintiq tablets.
For Bamboo tablets look for com.wacom.pentablet.prefs and com.wacom.touch.prefs . Simply delete those files. Also delete the following files "penTablet.prefPane" and "WacomTablet.prefPane" when you go into Macintosch HD - Library - Preference Panes. Please also search with Spotlight on "Wacom", "Tablet" and "Bamboo" and remove the files you find.

*** Reboot your system

Your tablet driver has now completely been removed from the system.

Then we would like to ask to repair the disk permission of your Mac.
1. Select the Go Menu / Utilities / Disk Utility
2. Select First Aid and the disk you wish to repair then click on Repair Disk
3. Enter your system password when indicated and the repair will begin. This may take a few minutes depending on the size of the drive.
4. When complete close Disk Utility and restart your system.

After doing this, you change the language on your Mac to English (default), not English UK or English US. Drag "English" to the top of the list to get it as selected language. You will have to log out and log back in to make this change active.

Also, please go to the Apple icon, click on Systempreferences and go to "Security and Privacy". There, please assure that you have selected "Allow apps downloaded from - Anywhere" (the last option) and then, plug in the tablet again and install the latest driver for your tablet from http://www.wacom.eu/index2.asp?pid=29&lang=en. There you fill in your operating system (Mac OS X > 10.10) and your product (Intuos Pro) and click on "Submit".
In this case I would advise you to download the "Driver 6.3.10w2 RC for Mac OS X 10.10, Mac OS X 10.9, Mac OS X 10.8 and 10.7 (Intel)".

Afterwards, you can put the language of your Mac back to your own.

Good luck all

Regards

Paul

OK so if Paul Reeve's fix doesn't work I fixed the problem with an intuos 2 in the following way:

1) Into another mac running an earlier OSX (10.7) I downloaded & installed driver 6.2 from the legacy page of Wacom drivers.

2) Plugging the tablet in to this older machine I set up the tablet preferences in the usual way & set the area of tablet to match the proportions of 3 screens on my yosemite desktop.

3) old machine.... open applications/wacom tablet/wacom tablet utility ....backup button saving wacom pref to desktop

4) copy this pref file to yosemite machine

5) install the same driver in yosemite machine

6) Open applications/wacom tablet/wacom tablet utility in yosemite hit Restore button to load the pref file you've copied accross

..and all is good!

I changed to 32 - bit system prefs. but the driver would stil not recognize the tablet. My drivers where v6.4. Uninstalled those and installed the v6.2 drivers linked in a different post below. All devices are now being recognized.

That an spectacularly silly, easy and established work around stops working on a newer driver version just shows how hard Wacom is working to ensure product redundancy and resource waste. Now this is nothing new to Apple/iPhone users, but it sure does not help our all ready screwed up planet.

I was able to get the graphire 4 wireless bluetooth working in Yosemite after many hours haha. I copied my preferences from my Mavericks (in ~/Library/preferences ... they are called "com.wacom.pentablet.prefs" and com.wacom.touch.prefs ...I also backed up the preferences using the wacom utility in Applications folder. then I uninstalled the old version of Wacom drivers and uninstalled the preferences... using wacom utility. then restarted... then installed "pentablet_5.3.5-4.dmg" from the wacom site. then, I went to applications folder, right clicked on the system preferences, went to "get info" clicked on 32 bits. Then I copied over the old preferences into the "~Libraray/preferences" folder...I also opened up the wacom utility and clicked on restore...then I restarted. then you should see the preferences pane is up on the top menu bar. looks like a rectangle with a another rectangle inside... I clicked on that, and it showed that my tablet was connected. Once that Happened, it worked.Open System preferences and whalla !

Only a few things in the system preferences don't work as expected but the other old preferences worked.

I forgot to say that it was the WacomTablet_6.3.11-3a.dmg drivers that I got working for:

Intuos 4 PTK-640

Yosemite 10.10.2

I followed Wacom's Yosemite driver installation instructions, with one exception. After removing the old drivers, i deleted one of the Wacom folders under /Library as listed by Dan in NC. Of course that folder would also have been found if I had used Paul Reeve's instructions about using Spotlight to find all occurrences of "Wacom" that were left behind.

TRY THIS! IT WORKED FOR ME!

I accidentally discovered this by comparing my broken setup to a machine where it was working fine.

  1. Open you hard disk at root level. In other words, go to: Harddisk/Library/Application Support/Tablet/WacomTabletDriver/
  2. Here you'll find a folder named "WacomTabletDriver" inside you'll find "WacomTabletDriver.app". Move the .app file one level up to the folder "Tablet" and delete the folder named "WacomTabletDriver" - you may be asked for your admin password.
  3. Now double-click the .app file - it should launch System Preferences and open the prefs pane in working condition!

As soon as I clicked using my Wacom pen, the pen options appeared too.

Basically I noticed that on the working mac, the .app file was not located in its own folder. Once I remedied this, I tried opening the prefs via System Prefs, but no luck. So in frustration I clicked the .app icon, and voila!

I got so excited that I decided to post this immediately, however I have yet to try a reboot. Wish me luck!

**UPDATE** Still works fine!!

Ok - I have been dealing with the same issue - the new driver does not work BUT - I found that WacomTable_6.3.10w2.dmg (located here: http://cdn.wacom.com/u/productsupport/drivers/mac/professional/WacomTablet_6.3.1 0w2.dmg ) did work!

I also have my Preferences panel back and can see my dual Wacom tablets once again!

I hope this helps. Also @Heftster if your fix works I would alert Wacom - they might have a bug in their install script.

Good-luck!

I can confirm that tvch's solution worked with my Intuos 2 on a Mac mini with OS 10.10.2. I uninstalled everything, installed WacomTablet_6.2.0w4, and then switched System Preferences.app to 32 bit mode before launching the Wacom Tablet prefpane. Yes the tablet was still visible to the prefpane after switching back to 64 bit mode.

This is ridiculous. Wacom definitely could continue to support the Intuos 2. It's not like the last time I had an obsolete Wacom tablet, back in the 90s, that ran off an ADB port. Apple discontinued the ADB port, so you kind of got me there, a very expensive tablet was useless when I bought a new Mac. But Wacom has no excuse this time. This is a perfectly good tablet, we know it works with current hardware, they just don't want to support it so they can force you to buy a new tablet. Sorry, that's why we buy Macs in the first place, they have a lower total cost of ownership because they aren't obsolete as fast as commodity PCs. Maybe Apple ought to take over support of these drivers, every dollar I spend on replacing peripherals is a dollar I can't spend on new Macs.

I got my Intuos2 XD-0405-U to work using above suggestion, but my Wacom preference pane only works in 32 bit mode.

The pen/tablet works, but the Wacom preference pane won't open, when System Preferences is restarted in 64 bit mode.

I also noticed that the options for setting the side click button functions, are not working in the Wacom pref. pane.

The lower button works only for option click.

Anybody have a work around for this?

Thanks to all who contributed to keeping our old gear working, with the new OS.

Wish Wacom would not drop support for our old devices :-(
