Working Wacom Drivers for Yosemite?

I had this same problem when I upgraded to Mavericks and now it happens again with Yosemite. My old Wacom tablets no longer work. With Mavericks, only one of the legacy drivers would work. Some version in the middle (not the latest). With Yosemite, I can't get anything to work. Either it won't load the preference pane after install or it doesn't see anything connected.

I have two Wacom Tablets:

  • Intuos 2 XD-0608-U
  • Intuos GD-0608-U

Has anyone had any luck with getting an old Wacom to work? As before, Wacom doesn't seem interested in updating their drivers for legacy users. It's a shame because the equipment itself still works great. Any 3rd party alternative drivers out there?

I can't be the only one with this problem. Maybe if we put our brains together on this thread, we can find a solution.

This is a great workaround Dan.

I went out and tried a few different options as I have both an intuos 3 and intuos 5 touch. The magic driver after a little trial and error was v. 6.3.8-2

This enabled all my quick keys, preferences and mapping in Yosemite. Nothing like taking my own time to fix something in a multi million dollar corporations shed.

Hope this helps someone!

If the wacom driver works but the preference pane doesn't open, you can try running it in 32 bits mode.

This worked for me (I have a Graphire 4, latest driver is 5.3.0 which isn't supported under 10.10):

Driver 5.3.0-3 runs OK on OSX Yosemite 10.10, but the preference pane doesn't work out of the box, however:

- you can still use your old preferences (they are in ~/Library/Preferences/com.wacom.pentablet.prefs and com.wacom.touch.prefs)

- the preference pane can be run by running the "System preferences" application in 32-bit mode. In the finder, go to /Applications, right-click on the System preferences application, get info, and check "run in 32-bits mode". Once you set your preferences, close the app and uncheck the 32 bits box.

Hi everybody. I have my drivers running perfectly now. Without any other preference panes or 32 bit mode tricks.

The problem is that you need to uninstall the drivers, but the uninstaller is not removing everything. So you have to do this manually, like shown on the wacom site (http://forum.wacom.eu/viewtopic.php?t=7926)but even more in depth:

- unplug tablet

- uninstall drivers with the software provided in programs/wacom

- reboot

- search for remaining parts of the driver by using the terminal (you should know about the Terminal to continue):

sudo find / -name "com.wacom.wacomtablet.prefs" -print

use sudo rm pathtowhatfindhasprinted or sudo rm -R pathtowhatfindhasprinted to delete everything this command has found. WATCH OUT for typos as rm will delete mercilessly!!!!!!!!!!!

it probably does not find everything, so you need to search more "freely":

sudo find / -name "*wacom*" -print

again use sudo rm pathtowhatfindhasprinted or sudo rm -R pathtowhatfindhasprinted to delete everything this command has found. WATCH OUT for typos as rm will delete mercilessly!!!!!!!!!!!

- reboot again

- if you want to be sure do the searches again (elements in "crashreporter" folders are no problem)

- plugin the tablet

- install latest drivers (in my case 6.3.11w3)

Now it will work. Without hack. Again, the problem is that because of the bad uninstall so there will always be some remains which somehow interfere with the new install.

Anyone heard of any progress on this issue? I am flaming mad...it wasn't too long ago that I had to ditch my old Wacom tablet to shell out no small amount of money to buy an Intuos 2 because one of the previous versions of MacOSX did the same thing...and now it's happening all over again. Without access to that preference pane, the thing is useless, and can't map to my screen. It sounds like there's already been plenty of complaining to both companies, so I think the only alternative is to look for a new tablet that is not made by Wacom. 😠

I upgraded to Yosemite and tried the basic solution per the video that has been suggested by many on the post without success. The problem for appeared to be incomplete installation of the driver in the Library (~/Library/Application Support/Tablet/WacomTabletDriver.app) with a driver that was still present!

The latest driver is now 6.3.11w3.

Thus the uninstaller utility from Wacom is defective. Searching for all files named Wacom after uninstalling should do the trick as it did for me! Thanks Dan in NC for the solution!

I have three wacom tablets, no working pref pane is available from Wacom. I'm using the workaround to get them running but the pref pane is not available.

Have corresponded with wacom to no avail.

Perfectly good hardware made obsolescent when it doesn't need to be.

If I was running wacom I'd get a developer on this- how hard can it be to write a universal driver/pref pane?

EVERYONE! After much frustration after searching for a **** working driver for my older intuos4, I finally found a solution. Some people suggested trying the European version of Wacom's site and finding a driver. I also tried a few obscure and risky third party sites that offered "working" drivers. Nothing was working and I was ready to destroy my tablet and my Mac all because Wacom was making things difficult. Well, somehow I stumbled across the answer... all you have to do is google "Wacom Legacy Drivers". They evidently had this hidden section of their site that is not linked anywhere from within. They have a whole list of drivers dating back several years worth. I tried a year old one, and it wasn't compatable with Yosemite, but then I tried one that was just two versions older than the current one and BINGO! My tablet works and the Preferences Pane works in System Preferences. All the options are there like the where on Mavericks.

Now we can all put our pitchforks and torches away and Wacom gets to live another day after all...
