Yosemite Battery Drain

I have been using Yosemite Beta for about a month. My battery drained incredibly fast using the Beta. I suspected battery issues would improve after updating to the public release of Yosemite yesterday. The issue has not resolved, however. Just in the last minute and a half of typing this question, my battery percentage has dropped 3%!

When you update, you get the notification that you need to optimize your mac to prevent excessive battery drain, but there is no description of how to optimize within Yosemite or on the web. How does one optimize their mac for Yosemite?

Apple, get on this!

Battery condition "Normal". With CoconutBattery "Good".

No significant battery usage by any of the running programs. Firefox uses from 5% to 10% and WindowServer about 5,5% (peaks to 19%).

And the latest versions are in use.

With Maverick this battery used to last 7-9 hours, but after Yosemite only 2-3 hours.

Also, it gets hot easily.

All signs that you have incompatible 3rd party software running, running badly. Probably antivirus/cleaning/optimizing or some other fanciful junk. 3rd part peripheral drivers (audio.external input devices etc) are also suspect.

Have you looked to see what is running, and whether it's compatible with 10.10

thanks for the tip. But I have been always checking my activity monitor and haven't found any clue.

CPU usage is generally 6 or 7 per cent.

No strange apps running.

Still, the battery life decreased significantly

You don't have to provide any information, but then I won't be able to provide any help.

Once again, please tell me what is running, 'haven't found any clue' is very little to go on.

While having only Airmail as a background app running and watching a movie on VLC Media player, the battery runs lost 10% per episode (20 minutes). With Mavericks I could easily go through 1 hour of a movie with Skype, Safari and several more apps running and it'll drain max 10%.

My mac book air is mid 2012 model now completed 20 months. Was getting 6 hours of battery using constant internet on maverics but after upgrading to yosemite it shows only 4 hours of battery on full charge. I have no other issues for upgrading. It is great operating system but hope apple brings another upgrade as soon as possible and solves the battery draining problem which almost 99% users are facing after upgrading to yosemite from maverics.

Im having the same issue on my 2013 MBA 13" after the update of Yosemite by battery drains extremely fast even when not in use.

not impressed with the update so far as for portability its useless as it needs to be plugged in

Yep...11+ hours of capacity at 100% charge on my BRAND NEW (2 weeks old) 11" MacBook Air under Mavericks, and now barely 4.5 to 5 hours at 100% under Yosemite. Not impressed. Activity Monitor showing no CPU usage that's significant ever. Very frustrating.

99% AGAdminService is Citrix Application object.

That is your problem, I thinking.

Uninstall all citrix software.

And reset DRAM and SMC, then goto safe mode (restart and push and hold shift).

Then normal login.

You can try reinstall Citrix software after those step.

That is what I did, then everything work now.

Same here, macbook pro 15" late 2013. Batterylife got worse after installing Yosemite and batterypercentage indicator seems to get ' stuck':

It stays at 42%, but after restart it shows 31% for example...

The link doesn't lead me anywhere, error 404. If I assume there was another piece of software running somewhere where the activity monitor can't identify it - it definitely wasn't running there before upgrading 😀 the battery had better life-time when I was playing Hitman Absolution than browsing safari now 😉
