Q: How to get widgets in OS X notification center?

I just downloaded Yosemite and am trying to set up my notification center. When I click the Edit button in the Today view, the only item available is Social. Where are all the widgets that are supposed to come preinstalled with Yosemite?

When you open the Notification Center you will see another icon in the bottom right corner. That opens the Preferences. You may find that you have turned off the other preinstalled notifications. If that is not the case click the grid icon at the top of the window and then select the Extensions preferences and check there that the "Today" items are active.

Thank you for your response. I've tried those things, and the widgets simply don't appear anywhere. I suspect they just weren't installed at all. Is there a way to install them without re-installing the whole OS?

Some of us that have upgraded from Public Beta 6 to Final Version have seen the widgets go missing, I've read on many different forums already about the same problem. Only the Today, Tomorrow & Social are there but Social won't work. None of the other widgets are there anymore even though they were there in PB6, after upgrade though, they have gone missing.

Interesting. I'm updating from the most recent version of Mavericks, FWIW, not the Beta.

I wish Apple would tell us how to fix this widget problem or issue an update quickly to fix this issue. I liked the widgets in the beta and the ability to post quickly to my social sites. A buddy of mine has them missing after upgrade from Mavericks to Yosemite also, so it seems to be affecting alot of people.

I think if you play around with donalds suggestions a bit more you might work it out...

For example in Settings-> Extensions-> All -> Check "Today"

Then go Settings-> extensions -> Today -> click the ones you want...

You might also need to go as he said: Settings -> Notifications -> Check the relevant items are ticked...

Example for calendar you might want:

    Show notifications on lock screen

    Show in notification center

Thanks for your response, but as I've said, I did try that and it doesn't work (Calendar seems to be working fine, though. I don't even see an option for adding or removing it from the Notification Center).

For example in Settings-> extensions -> Today, there's just one option, Social. There's nothing else there to click.

What I am saying is you have to go to Settings-> extensions -> ALL (activate or "tick" Today there)

and then go Settings-> extensions -> Today and click the things you want...

Sorry if you already did that and im just repeating myself...

But this is quite subtle and can be confusing. Just making sure you tried that.

Additionally, there seems to be some connection between the Preferences>Extensions>Share Menu settings and what Social Networks are shown in Notification Center.

I see, thanks for the clarification. So when I go to Settings-> extensions -> ALL, there is no Today option to click...

As a penultimate test I might pull the com.apple.notificationcenterui.plist from your Preference folder and put it in the Trash, log out and back in and see if the file is recreated and possibly solves the problem. If not, put the file back where it came from.

Interesting.... Look at mine... (Plz note im still running the Public Beta 614A388b which is very similar if not identical)

I think we need to figure out how you can activate the "today" tab in ALL to get around this. i.e. install that extension.
