Oct 17, 2014 8:17 AM in response to M9100009by The hatter,I have seen yes and no but that was on Yosemite forum (very busy as can imagine) and on MBP
And of course like every new OS,
wait, check for updates, make sure you have a safety net (clone of prior system), check RoaringApps
http://roaringapps.com/apps?index=a
One of my favorites:
Both tend to be good for getting and central "clearing house" for reports that otherwise get lost in forums.
Apple already has some Yosemite Security Software Updates.
You mean this thread?

Oct 17, 2014 8:48 AM in response to The hatterby M9100009,Thank you very much for the reply,
I was kind of frustrated as the problem meant that I had to either find a way to play around with 'pages' and reformat my entire thesis
or downgrade the operating system as my hand in date is coming soon but i really like the new yosemite. So i guess a bit of toss up there.
How long do you think it would take to solve the problem from Apple?
Thanks for the reply

Oct 17, 2014 8:59 AM in response to M9100009by The hatter,General guideline you find posted a lot and used for last decade:
Bootable backup clone so you can dual boot old and new OS and treat it as a test system.
First is it just your setup and Word files as someone else suggested? and when will Microsoft offer a new updated version? This is NOT something that Apple is likely to address. They are not really responsible for breaking things :-)
Google, watch RoaringApps and other web sites and such.

Oct 20, 2014 1:45 AM in response to M9100009by Muserale,I had the same problem for the past 3 days. Word was crashing and then re-opening the same files every time I opening it again. Somebody mentioned this was happening only if track changes was active, but this was not my case. Somebody else mentioned that it was only happening when the Word files were in full screen view. I have just tried opening Word again - the files in question opened automatically. I took them out of full screen, closed them, opening a brand new file, saved that, closed Word and then opened it again with one of the files that kept crashing and for now that is working ok.
Good luck

Oct 20, 2014 4:27 AM in response to M9100009by Nic125,As I wrote on another thread, I have a similar problem. Word 2008 works fine on Yosemite if the document contains no comments. It freezes when I open a document already containing comments or when I try to add a comment to a document that contains none. So the problem seems to come from the comments feature.
I reinstalled Office 2008, and the problem persists, but instead of freezing it now quits unexpectedly, in the same circumstances.
Does anyone running Word 2011 experience the same problem?

Oct 20, 2014 12:00 PM in response to M9100009by Mahmood Reaz,I'm also having this problem. Microsoft Word shows an error at startup, where it says that it needs legacy Java SE 6 runtime, then crashes

Oct 21, 2014 3:12 AM in response to M9100009by Cherylct,I sadly have the same problem. Try to open a document with track changes and Word thinks for 2 secs then closes..... aaarrrggghhh. How am I supposed to work like this & collaborate with others...
Wonder how long Microsoft is going to take to release a fix? Seeing as they don't even seem to be officially acknowledging the problem!

Oct 21, 2014 3:42 AM in response to M9100009by Cherylct,I have solved my problem with crashing with track changes & comments in Word 2011. I downloaded the upgrade / patch to Version 14.4.5. It now seems to be stable. (holding thumbs)

Nov 4, 2014 11:36 AM in response to M9100009by hydrangeagal,Update on my previous post, I said downloading the update from Microsoft solved my problem. Not so much. When I try to open a new document, I get copies of many previous documents. When I try to close them, everything crashes. Then, I get the big Microsoft error message, Word has unexpectedly closed, and will restart.
Every document is followed by this notice, I finally stopped sending the useless notice. Makes it tense to use the program, as I may or may not keep the document.
Please send to to Microsoft to report the problem.

Nov 12, 2014 7:28 AM in response to M9100009by celestialtour,Uninstalled and reinstalled latest update of Microsoft Office 2011 - now have 14.4.6 - and STILL am having freezing problems with Word. If I try to save an open doc, or choose to Don't Save, the red close button fades as does all other commands. The only way around this is to Force Quit, restart Word and the unsaved docs reappear. Can't work this way. Am near tears with frustration. Does anyone have a solution beyond downloading the latest Office update???

Nov 12, 2014 9:35 AM in response to M9100009by VikingOSX,Using the Microsoft uninstaller, remove Office for Mac 2011. Then reinstall it, and immediately run AutoUpdate, which should also now see the 14.4.6 update from yesterday. After the updates are applied, run Disk Utility and verify/repair permissions.
Open your thesis in Word, and march on.

Dec 1, 2014 9:20 AM in response to M9100009by jarmac99,I am having the same issue with Word and Yosemite. I couldn't get to the full screen button either. I went to view / exit full screen / and then saved my document and closed it and Word behaved correctly with no crashes. When I re-opened Word, it came up with a blank document like it should. It appears to be a full screen problem. Hopefully MS will create a patch soon.

Dec 4, 2014 1:11 AM in response to M9100009by Nico_Be,Hi,
I'm having the same problem too. While working on pre-Yosemite docs --> crash after 1 min (including comments or not). While working on new-post Yosemite doc --> OK.
I have the latest version 10.4.6 and made everything I found on various forums...and it still crashes!
Please, somebody can help us? I work as a consultant and most of my consultancy assignment reports have been created before upgrading to Yosemite so that I can not work anymore!!!
Thank you for any new suggestions!

Dec 7, 2014 6:57 PM in response to M9100009by jdvango,I can no longer use MS Word 2011, ever since I installed Java runtime 6. The file opens but nothing works: pages don't scroll, can't change or enter text, etc. It's useless to me.
