blurry font on yosemite

Interesting thread. I bought a Mac Mini (Late 2014) to see whether I would want to move to Apple. Immediately noticed the blurry fonts; tried all the fixes without any success. Currently back to Windows on the same computer (Boot Camp), and the same Samsung monitor. Text is perfectly clear and crisp. I do not understand how this could be ignored in every update - perhaps some (most?) people are simply not bothered by the blurry fonts? I decided to wait for El Capitan - doubt this will ever be addressed in Yosemite - and then probably permanently back to Windows.

please navigate to TIP 17, where in there is a link to download a small patch to install the LUCIDA GRANDE font back to YOSEMITE. It works brilliantly and all the blurriness is off. While you are at it, try some of the other tips as well, especially the dark mode. It looks and feels real awesome.

With the LUCIDA GRANDE installed, you can actually enable the font smoothening option. It makes it better. This solution works perfect for the Non Retina display machines.

Guys, does anyone know if El Capitan will fix (or at least alleviate a bit) this frustrating issue? They changed the font to 'San Francisco' so I'm hoping they made a good pick..

It's fixed on my 27" iMac with 10.11, the new font is much better. It's annoying that it took Apple so long to fix it.

Trying El Capitan 10.11.1 beta on my iMac 20" and so far so good. Beside the new UI font (San Francisco) the random blurriness seems fixed.

It took apple one year and one major release to address this annoying issue, but at least now it's fixed.

My external monitor is an HP E231. The font still looks crappy on El capitan. This is my company provided Mac, as I've always used Linux before and have never had this problem.

How do you turn off anti-aliasing? Unchecking the "font smoothing" button did not help enough.

Same here. My 27-inch iMac (Late 2009) no longer has this issue on El Capitan.

I had the same problem. Blurry text on all applications. Sometimes it helped to re-boot then it kept happening more often. I called Apple support and they had me do a PRAM reset. Shut down computer then restart while holding down Cmd + Opt + P + R. Hope that helps. Fixed mine for now.
