blurry font on yosemite

so i've upgraded to yosemite.

overall i like it, simplified and more like iOS

however the first thing that hit me is how blurry all the text is everywhere!

it's pretty awful, i'm sure it wasn't that bad with mavericks

the menu bar at the top of the screen is worse of all, i really don't understand what is going on here.it's bad and i hope it will be addressed in an update

i think you can see from this screen shot how the web text is fairly clear whilst the menu bar is blurry

Installed yosemite today on 2013 27' imac but that was a terrible mistake.

Total headache after couple of minutes, cannot use this imac anymore and boy do i really need it for work.

Anti aliasing, contrast... i even patched the font back to lucinda grande but noting helps.

I am screwed.

Can i downgrade it back to mavericks because this is ****?

I am having this issue. Upgraded my Mac Mini which is using a brand new ASUS HDMI monitor.

Fonts are incredibly blurry and causing headaches. Does anyone have a solution? How do I submit to Apple?

I unchecked font smoothing, makes 0 difference. Also tried restarting. Apple has really gone downhill. I can't believe they released an OS with such a (literally) glaring issue.

Oh Guys this is horrible.

I got rid of my i7 27" iMac late 2013 I bought a few weeks ago and took home the new 27" Retina a few days ago.

Not only is the text difficult to read at the normal 2 feet or so I sit at but I can tell you the standard 27 I got rid of was much easier to read at the same distance. Yes the text looks razor sharp on the Retina iMac but that isn't the problem. I had mavericks on my other machine and now I am forced into Yosemite which is probably causing most of the problem. They have a setting in general/displays where you can see the scaled amount and theres a settting for best retina. On my Macpro13 that looks great.. On the new 27 Retina it doesn't.. The text is a pixel or two smaller on the new Retina 27 than the prior model and this is a huge problem. I went to the apple store today and spent 2 hours with very patient genius guy and we looked at both side by side and both of us saw the same thing. The Retina 27 is not better for text as you don't have the adjustment capabilities to make it look like the standard 27 which looked awesome.

It gets worse... I have a pair of samsung 214T monitors 1600X1200 flanking my 27 and have been using this 3 monitor setup for years. On the new retina machine driving the two monitors. the monitors look totally horrid. The text is all blurry and just about unwatchable. I am thinking after reading this thread that its possible yosemite and I hope so as they can fix this in software but talk about frustrating. I now have a brand new 2700 machine which I was all excited about RETINA and it looks worse than my prior iMac and the extra monitors I use every day are rendered useless.

Apple Please read this thread and fix this before people start returning their brand new Retina iMacs and worse they will leave the brand for putting out an OS that doesn't look as good as it did before Yosemite.

PLEASE APPLE let me choose what font to use in Yosemite. Blew my mac with the upgrade to Yosemite. All this because of the new font that is horrible for those who have not retina display. If I knew I would never have upgraded.

CAME BACK Maveriks 😟

Happened the same on my iPad mini when i upgrade. Now it seems I have a fake ipad just looking at the screen.

Almost no use iPad mini because I think the resolution of horrible.

Came BACK Steve Jobs.

I have a iMac without Retina and I love the new font. There is not much difference compared to Lucida.

But yes, I expect that Apple will fix the bug with blur.

Blurred fonts on the menu bar does not worry me much because they are thicker. But thinner and smaller fonts in some parts of the system as well as some letters icons seem blurry and crooked making endeavor vision and consequently headaches.

Something that had pride in my iMac was a fast reboot 45 seconda more or less. Now with OS X Yosemite takes almost two and a half minutes to reboot.
