blurry font on yosemite

so i've upgraded to yosemite.

overall i like it, simplified and more like iOS

however the first thing that hit me is how blurry all the text is everywhere!

it's pretty awful, i'm sure it wasn't that bad with mavericks

the menu bar at the top of the screen is worse of all, i really don't understand what is going on here.it's bad and i hope it will be addressed in an update

i think you can see from this screen shot how the web text is fairly clear whilst the menu bar is blurry

I have to thank crystalship for the reference to Mr. Schreiberstein's Lucida Grande fix. It wasn't so much the blurriness that bothered me but the finer, smaller size, I'm old and it was just getting harder and harder to read. Fixing the font was the last thing I needed for my system modifications.

I'm almost done, I used LiteIcon to install my custom folders and icons, cDock for my custom dock and this font fix completes the package.

Thanks!

Articles like this one from OSXDaily back on October 27/14 http://osxdaily.com/2014/10/27/change-font-smoothing-text-os-x-yosemite/#comment -755175

...and from many other tech websites trying to find a font fix is rampant on the internet. I do hope Apple is aware and does something to fix it soon. I have sent numerous Feedback reports to Apple, but I haven't seen any indication that this will get fixed with the next release. My eyes are really getting a beating.

This is my Safari drop down menu. The font is so dim. Sometimes the font is darker and other times it's barely legible. I don't get it. Yosemite is such a mind game. You should see what the App Store looks like with its dim tiny font. I can't even read it. I hope the next update offers darker font settings in Preferences because this is getting ridiculous. I'm glad I saved screenshots of Mavericks to remind me that my MBP font was perfect before the upgrade.

Sorry I didn't notice your question until now.

I changed the system fonts to Lucida Grande with the Schreiberstein Solution:

https://github.com/schreiberstein/lucidagrandeyosemite

I stopped using Safari, which appears to be hardwired, switched to FireFox and installed therein:

No Squint;

Theme Font Size Changer; and

Roomy Bookmarks Toolbar

I increased the minimum display fonts in Apple Mail from within the program

I used TinkerTool to try to universally change the minimum fonts and sizes within all other programs which allow default font and size changes, keeping in mind that TinkerTool does not override any program's prohibitions but just gives you a way to change all the rest in one step instead of app by app

I turned on Dark Menus to create more contrast between active and inactive commands in the dropdown menus.

Regards, Nate 😀

PS I went to System Prefs/General and changed Appearance to Graphite, SideBar Icon Size to Large (because it enlarges the sidebar fonts too-don't care about the icons); Default Web Browser to FireFox; and unchecked LCD Font Smoothing;

I went to SysPref/Accessibility/Display and checked Increase Contrast and Enlarge Cursor Size;

I kept SysPref/Display/Resolution as Best for Display not scaled; and Brightness to Automatically Adjust

and probably a few other things I probably don't remember right now.

All of the experimenting and turning things on and off was **** but I hope this helps others.
