Severe performance degradation vs Mavericks

Hi I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2012) 2.5 GHz Intel Core i58 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB and after upgrading to Yosemite I noticed a significant performance degradation: overall the system is not as smooth as it used to me, even resizing a Safari window is "choppy".

I am disappointed.

No I am saying 4gb is a minimum for a reason. Its pretty cheap to upgrade, and to be honest it was the best money I ever spent as it revolutionised my machine. Also how much free space do you have?

One quick check would be to boot up in Safe Mode (hold down Shift whilst booting) - is the performance better? If so, perhaps something in your Login Items at startup is hogging cpu?

Memory can be a big bottleneck to the fastest processor - so another thought is an you see what apps are using the most memory in Activity Monitor as well - it may be a memory hog causing everything else to slow down

I tried everything on my mac pro:

-reset PRAM - nothing

-verify permissions on disk it found few problems all fixed, nothing helped

-I verified disk and no errors.

-I tried run in safe mode - I only get black screen with cursor and nothing happens. How long does it take to boot into safe mode?

I/m getting out of my mind... my mac pro performance is bad and this new system upgrade put my computer into useless state... 😟

Dear Nikolay

I have the same problem. I had installed Yosemite on my 2009 Macbook Pro with 4 GB RAM. Earlier, with the Mavericks, it was running quite fast, but after installing Yosemite, it has become very very slow. Almost unusable.

Did you find any solution to your problem.

I am unable to use my macbook like this.

Thanks

Try adjusting your Spotlight preferences.

"Luckily, Yosemite’s search-snooping can be switched off in seconds. In Mac OS X’s System Preferences, the functions can be found under “Spotlight” and then “Search Results.” From there you need to disable “Spotlight Suggestions,” “Bookmarks and History,” and “Bing Web Searches.” If you use Safari you will then need to disable the same “Spotlight Suggestions” function in the browser (under “Preferences” and then “Search”) to avoid having terms you type into its address bar shared with Apple by default too."

One benefit of disabling these things on my Yosemite test system was that it ran better. It was somewhat sluggsh before.
