A lady, Hanna, at Google Chrome pointed me to a Reddit post, which said download JDK, which is Java Development Kit. I did, and I haven't seen that *%$&# box all day. It's a LITTLE complicated; let me start you with the reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/osx/comments/2ik6hu/to_view_this_web_content_you_need_t o_install_java/

It seems to have worked for a lot of people, including me, with a 2009 MBP, Yosemite, Chrome 39.x (64 bit).

It'll probably work for you.

Thanks LucyFerarum, you put me on to the right trail to get this fixed finally. All these other posts instructing to install and old Java library are not correct, nor is installing the JDK really fixing the issue. The com.facebook.videochat.* was also the offending startup process causing the issue for me.

Here are the steps I used to correct, as even after removal from Launch control it kept returning on reboot:

1. Open a Terminal Prompt

2. Show non Apple startup Agents. At $ execute "launchctl list | grep -v apple", will look something like the following.

PID Status Label

- 0 org.openbsd.ssh-agent

282 0 com.symantec.symsecondarylaunch.application

274 0 com.symantec.quickmenu.application

- 0 com.google.keystone.system.agent

- 0 com.valvesoftware.steamclean

- 0 com.oracle.java.Java-Updater

276 0 com.Logitech.Control Center.Daemon

302 0 com.google.Chrome.62228

- 1 com.facebook.videochat.Chad.updater

295 0 com.symantec.scannotification.application

- 0 net.tunnelblick.tunnelblick.LaunchAtLogin

275 0 com.symantec.savdiskmountnotify.application

317 0 net.tunnelblick.tunnelblick.119880

One of the returned items is likely your issue, mine was also "com.facebook.videochat.USERNAME.updater"

3. Change to the Agents directory, "cd ~/Library/LaunchAgents/"

4. I also had to remove the actual agent files, as it kept re-appearing on reboot. You can view those on your system and remove. List out the items in directory "ls"

com.apple.CSConfigDotMacCert-lingmann@me.com-SharedServices.Agent.plist

com.facebook.videochat.USERNAME.plist

com.valvesoftware.steamclean.plist

net.tunnelblick.tunnelblick.LaunchAtLogin.plist

org.virtualbox.vboxwebsrv.plist

4. From ~/Library/LaunchAgents/ execute "rm com.facebook.videochat.USERNAME.plist"

5. Also remove from Launch control with "launchctl remove com.facebook.videochat.USERNAME.updater"

6. Exit and reboot

Hope this helps someone else, this has been and extremely annoying issue.

Agreed. Do not use Terminal, it is completely unnecessary.

1) Right-click Finder

2) Select 'Go To Folder'

3) Type in the search window " ~/Library/LaunchAgents/ "

4) If available, right-click the file " com.facebook.videochat.USERNAME.plist "

5) Select " Move to Trash "

6) Empty Trash

7) Restart Mac. Message should no longer be popping up.

It worked perfectly for me!

Same thing here, but the page that you refer to looks broken and it refers me to the Oracle web site for the latest Java version. I've done that, several times, and I still get the message at startup. Two questions:

In 2015 how do I fix this? The 2014 fix no longer works.

What is causing it? What's trying to run Java when I log in to begin with? Why does it say there's no Java when the latest Java IS installed? (Okay, that's many questions!)

os x yosmite shows this message at startup: To view this web content, you need to install the Java Runtime Environment.
