os x yosmite shows this message at startup: To view this web content, you need to install the Java Runtime Environment.

so I've just downloaded and installed OS X 10.10 YOSEMITE on my mac this morning and I find the design refreshing, however when I do a reboot of my mac this popup message always shows up: To view this web content, you need to install the Java Runtime Environment. here's a screen shot of it

it is really annoying, and quite bothering on my part. I tried clicking the "more info..." tab as instructed by the popup/ notification, which led me to the webpage of java, and this is a screenshot of what I got

so I've downloaded the .dmg file of the Java 8 update and installed it on my computer, did a check on my safari browser settings to see if the Java plugin is activated and, it is. Hoping that that the trick I rebooted my mac again and voila! the same popup appears again. I hope you could help me on this one guys, any suggestions for a quick fix would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Here are the specs of my mac:

MacBook Air, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

Implying that you're repeatedly reinstalling the SE 8 JRE.

How do I make the **** message stop appearing.

By installing the SE 6 JRE, obtained from https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572.

Thanks so much for the detailed instructions. They made complete sense to me. But I am an old Unix hacker. :-)

Let's hope this solves this annoying "feature" of El Capitan.

In case someone finds this old thread, the link is outdated. This is the current JRE 6 for the Mac

Download Java for OS X 2015-001

The reason you need it is simple: You have a 32bit application that requires a Java run time. The JRE 8 you download from Oracle does not support 32bit applications.

Oracle does not let Apple include a Java Run Time with an OS install anymore. The JRE 6 came from Sun and Apple is still able to offer it.

If you want to change all of this, you may have to buy Larry Ellison's share of Oracle first. Otherwise, this is how it is. Their software, their rules. Apple has no say so in this.
