Bluetooth audio lag

LOL! Now I see where the patience comes from... 😉

Well, all I have is the Time Machine backups, and I'm not even totally sure that's reliable enough in this case. I don't have another harddrive to rely on, so looks like I'm stuck waiting for Apple to do something about the CPU stuff and everything else, all the other quirks (like Facetime ringing whenever I get a regular phone call on my cell at the same time - oy!)

I will keep this post in mind though if I end up freaking out at some point and decide to do the downgrade. Wish it was easier, for sure, but I'm glad it worked out for you. Thanks for your help

No end of stuttering in conversation between mac air and Bose mini after clean update. My last Apple purchase after my many grumbles and few replies, I fear. For the money, I might as well by a Windows user for the service. To release an update that has errors is one thing, to release a second to repair it, that doesn't, is, for the money we pay, in-excusable. Apple is not going to do well from this.

I'm sad but not surprised to report, after installing the update per ugofrompadova's instructions, I still have the same audio skippy problem. It surfaced immediately upon playing audio. I'm not sure yet if there is any improvement on how it was before, but after the first 10 minutes, it seems the same. Definitely not fixed.

I have to say, i'm really glad I found people that can relate to my problem. But I to have the same problem you guys are having and I have no solution. This happens randomly for me and while it doesn't happen all the time its quite annoying that this problem exists. I hope there is a patch REALLY SOON, but i'm not going to hold my breath on this one.

I had the same prob with my soundbar. So I just bought a Lenovo Yoga and am never looking back to Apple.

Mac has been doing some shady things of late... updates that dont run ANY of my paid programs anymore and cause my battery to 'need service', incompatibility with other slightly older mac products, making my external that holds my time machine backups not work..

They have just turned to money-grubbing idiots. They had such a great product before... It's just turned to s*** now.

Same with us.

We have a small language learning plattform, our teachers use yosemite and bluetooth headsets.

Skype and google hangouts lag horrible. we can not work professionally, we need a solution quick!!

Same issue. Will Apple fix this? Does anyone know if there are Ubuntu drivers for a 13" mid 2010 Macbook Pro? Love the hardware, but I have always been pretty indifferent to Apple software. This makes me wonder about doing a ˆ"real" software update and just putting Linux or Windows 8 on the machine.

Has any1 fixed this problem? It's so annoying! Is it just Apple or other OS to? or is it the bluetooth?

Im using Outdoor Tech. Private and sometimes the lag may reach 1 second at it's worst. But then I restart so I don't know how far the lag can go.

jamesrt, I'm not an OSX expert, but running that command resulted in my playing music stopping immediately, and I couldn't get sound working again still I opened Sound Preferences and started clicking around (or perhaps just waiting was what did it), but once the sound was working again, the skipping and popping and delay was immediately present. As with all the other supposed solutions, this did absolutely nothing for me. Did I do something wrong?

(Using MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014) running 10.10.2 and connected to Jawbone BIG JAMBOX Wireless Bluetooth Speaker or LG Electronics Tone+ HBS-730 Bluetooth Headset and often also using Aerb® Wireless Bluetooth Speaking Mouse, usually playing music with Spotify, though the problem is exhibited for all audio, even the volume adjustment notification noise.)

Actually disabling 'Sound Check' in Music setting only works for a while, as soon as I disconnected bluetooth or restart the phone, audio lag was there again. I'm using the iPhone 5s and JBL onbeat awake as speakers. The delay at the beginning of each song appears to be time it takes to transmit signal from the phone to the speaker, which is about 1.5 seconds, as soon as the speaker receives the signal it starts playing, but then it fast forwards at 2x normal play speed 1.5 - 2 seconds to catch up with the phone and that's how the audio lag problem is for me. I wouldn't mind it if it is just the first song but because it happens at the beginning of every song, it kind of makes the listening experience a lot less enjoyable.

I<3Music, oh, you're talking about an audio problem with an iPhone?! I thought all the messages in this thread were in reference to OSX + Bluetooth. It is interesting to hear the problem also affects iOS. That also makes me less hopeful this will get fixed… and more confused how Apple's "quality control" missed this issue that affects every computer I personally tested.

howanghk, can you either test or give more info on what you mean by "renicing bluetoothaudiod with a higher priority"? I'm fairly familiar with unix systems but not as much with OSX internals. How can we control this?

howanghk, that makes perfect sense. Somehow I never heard of renice and thought it was a typo at first glance!

Anyway, I ran the command, and the first minute is promising!! I can now pause and resume music instantly, and it seems good. I'll report back after some more use and testing. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

EDIT:: I'm an idiot and forgot I just switched to a hard cable an hour ago. I unfortunately have to take back my response.

Unfortunately I stupidly forgot I had just switched back to physical audio cable in frustration, so when I ran howanghk's suggested command, I then tested and things seemed good… but switching back to bluetooth, the problem remains. :-(

EMOTIONAL ROLLER COASTER!

I understand, howanghk. And I am thankful for your suggestion and efforts. I need to do more testing to see how much it might improve as well. I just got super excited when I heard great audio right after running the command, forgetting I was using a wire.

One thing I was unsure of, when I was checking if the command actually worked (and ps -lp 854 (my pid, of course) showed it did work)… is I saw the process is apparently "sleeping" … while playing audio through bluetooth. Is that expected?

Couldn't update the firmware on my speaker because JBL Ampup app instantly crashes every time I try to open it so I thought I would run a few more tests before reporting back...and the result is:

JBL onbeat awake does not seem to work at all with my Mac Pro retina 2012, it has delay issue with the iPhone 5s and the iPad 3! I have 3 wireless bluetooth enabled speakers and everything seems to work fine for all devices no matter which one is connected to which, except for the JBL onbeat awake speaker. I think there might be a problem with the speaker itself rather than Apple software.

Edit: I powered off and restarted all devices, switched power source to ensure every device gets their own source of power! No luck still. It's a shame because the JBL speaker sounds the best of all the speakers I have.
