Bluetooth audio lag

Just updated (17th.Oct.2014) to OS X Yosemite. Im having trouble with bluetooth connection. There is an audio lag on my bluetooth headphone which progressively gets worse. Im using Sony DR-BTN 200. Is there a temporary solution until they fix it?

P.S. I found others with similar issues as well. Ive tried re-pairing the connection to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

The storage of the Bluetooth audio values have been changed in Mavericks / Yosemite the defaults are now with a process called “Bluetoothaudiod”, you can change the defaults by using the following example:

Sudo defaults write bluetoothaudiod "Apple Bitpool Min" 50

Please see below all the parameters I have changed, to read the defaults please enter the following command in terminal:

sudo defaults read bluetoothaudiod

enter your password:

MacBook-Pro:~ Ciaran$ sudo defaults read bluetoothaudiod

{

"AAC Bitrate" = 320;

"AAC CBR" = 1;

"Apple Bitpool Max" = 64;

"Apple Bitpool Min" = 50;

"Apple Initial Bitpool" = 50;

"Disable AAC codec" = 0;

"Disable AptX codec" = 0;

"Disable HFP" = 0;

"Enable AptX codec" = 1;

These setting work well with my Bose Soundink OE headphones, please be careful entering the values as they are case sensitive, I really hope this helps some of you out there.

Cheers.

Just a quick update. I've played with 10.10.2 now for about two days, and for several hours with my bluetooth speaker. (It fixed the WiFi issue for me as others have reported here.) The new update very much improved the bluetooth audio lag. There's pretty much no lag at all with youtube, but there is still an ever-so-slight lag with hulu and amazon...ever-so-slight. I've watched and tinkered for hours on hulu and amazon, and it still isn't perfect, and I'm not going to settle for almost-perfect. So I'm downgrading back to my older OS because everything on it worked, and I'm returning my speakers, as I bought them with the intention of movie watching. Best of luck to everyone!

iMac 27" late 2013 OS X yosemite same issues. Mine sounds like a vinyl record skipping only on the sony mdr-zx750bn : wireless noise canceling stereo bluetooth headset. No noise on my sony wired headset. While viewing the bluetooth settings panel for this bluetooth device if I put it on the actual device it clears up for a short while. The minute I get out of the panel it reverts to skipping.

I struggled with this for quite some time, and even contacted Apple Support with all the default suggested steps, to no avail.

It got to the point my bluetooth headphones wouldn't even pair or disappear from the list of bluetooth devices when I deleted them. So, I decided to try turning off the Wi-Fi and see if that allowed me to do anything else (they're both radio devices, after all... maybe there's a conflict?!) and, lo and behold, I could now pair my bluetooth headphones without any audio glitches, and they've been running fine for the last half hour. I'll keep them going and see if they go bad again.

FIXED IT!!

I have a iMac 27" Mid-2011 and I've been having choppy bluetooth issues for months. I have both a Magic Mouse as well as a Trackpad on the machine. A couple of days ago, the trackpad's batteries died while I was listening to a choppy podcast... and low and behold... everything cleared up. I've left the trackpad off for the past couple of days and the audio is now completely clear!! No more choppy audio.

I tried to reconnect the trackpad and the problem recurred, so it's definitely the trackpad. As such, I've left the trackpad off and it's clear as day. This leaves me without a trackpad, but also a clear and definitive cause to the problem. This is something that should be escalated to Apple's bug team so that they can update the firmware of the trackpad, change the channel on which it's communicates, whatever.

Anyway, I hope this helps someone.

Bluetooth problems were only the beginning of a labyrinth of issues when I upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite.

It was a month long problem that was a daily obstacle.

This was the worst I've ever seen Apple in terms of Quality Check.

Seriously, I know what bugs are and these issues were not bugs.

Serious problems in every area of my system.

I finally wiped out everything on my local hard drive, didn't use time machine and just replaced the late 2012 iMac with a clean copy of Yosemite.

Since then, about 2 days ago, only positive experiences, in that the computer is running Normal.

Its smooth, no memory leakage, CPU boosts or bad graphics.

No breadcrumb trail of fixes like turning off dash, turning off iCloud drive, etc..

if you're at your wits end, and have your stuff backed up in some fashion

I recommend it - the clean format and install.

I'm using my bluetooth headphones now and doesn't seem to be a problem with safari flash player (youtube), iTunes, and a VLC movie, all of them seem to be in sync.

It took me a month of headaches everyday to come to this point but I'm glad I did, it wiped out all the wild card exceptions in terms of what couldve gone wrong. I want a working computer. Now I have one.

i believe this is Yosemite. I have a late 2009 8gb, SSD mac Mini, and had the same issues... the problems became worse for me, effecting all AV sources. Luckily, I had just upgraded to an SSD with Mavericks, and then CC cloned from my old hdd.

i wrote the following about a month ago...Hope this helps.

In a seemingly unrelated problem, If I tried to save a photo out of a browser, download an app, etc.. The access to disks was dog slow.

Further, I had the well known Wifi problem reported all over the web.

These problems persisted even after the latest update to 10.10.1

I have an SSD with Yosemite on it, but I had recently CCCd from a spinning mac drive which was Mavericks. Then I updated the SSD to Yosemite.

As a Sanity check, I rebooted from the old spinning mac drive into Mavericks, and just like magic, my chronic problems disappeared! All of them!

I have since CCCd the SSD back to Mavericks, and my Mac Mini is now lightning fast... no exaggeration.

In my opinion, this is a software-hardware interface or I/O software issue, which affects all devices: Wifi, HDD, Sound, Video, Bluetooth, and anything else you may have attached. I also feel that this “fix” will be a long time coming due to its far-reaching nature.

Let me know if there is a fix, till then, Ill stick with Mavericks.

I had this problem without even realising what was going on after update from Mavericks to Yosemite. Finally realised it wasnt a RAM issue and software related. I have upgraded to SSD in original macbook 2012.

Cleared all bluetooth connections and re-added my belkin bluetooth thing and also did a PRAM reset and it fixed it. No lag now.

But dont despair never has a solution I have read on the support communities ever worked before for me!

Had the same problem and constantly tried new things while following this thread. The new update to 10.10.2 didn't do it for me either. So finally I tried the other end and called bose (I have a soundlink III). Tech support told me, that generally with mac they have connection problems after updates (I use an android phone with the speaker as well and it didn't show any problems during the whole time).

Support told me to unpair the bose from the mac (delete it from the bluetooth paring list) and then do the same thing on the bose by keeping the bluetooth button pressed until you hear a sound (clears the pairing list of the device). Right now I am listening via bluetooth without problems. As I am working all day and therefore will probably listen to music all the time as well, I can give you an update later today if it actually worked.
