Just updated (17th.Oct.2014) to OS X Yosemite. Im having trouble with bluetooth connection. There is an audio lag on my bluetooth headphone which progressively gets worse. Im using Sony DR-BTN 200. Is there a temporary solution until they fix it?
P.S. I found others with similar issues as well. Ive tried re-pairing the connection to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

The storage of the Bluetooth audio values have been changed in Mavericks / Yosemite the defaults are now with a process called “Bluetoothaudiod”, you can change the defaults by using the following example:
Sudo defaults write bluetoothaudiod "Apple Bitpool Min" 50
Please see below all the parameters I have changed, to read the defaults please enter the following command in terminal:
sudo defaults read bluetoothaudiod
enter your password:

These setting work well with my Bose Soundink OE headphones, please be careful entering the values as they are case sensitive, I really hope this helps some of you out there.

Yeah, daverstevens, I tried that too, but to no avail. The issue reoccurred right after reboot for me. The only solution I've found that temporarily works for each session is to disable the Wi-Fi after startup and allow the headset to pair. Once it is paired, I re-enable Wi-Fi and the problem goes away.

I think the anomaly is possibly firmware based, If you try disconnecting everything other than the keyboard you may find stability of use.
The only other thing I have done is purchase a Orico BTA-402 USB Bluetooth 4.0 dongle, just plug-in and works straight from the box, which seems to work better, £6.50 from eBay.
The bluetooth audio problem is much more of an issue for me when streaming audio from Youtube for example bluetooth audio becomes unusable, if my wifi on Macbook pro is off bluetooth audio much better.
i found a really terrible solution on apples behalf: boot into windows. zero issues in windows. i have a 2007 macbook pro santa rosa with bluetooth 2.0 and the fact that its only 2.0 is definitely not the problem. i had a phone and tablet both with 2.0 and never had a problem listening to music or watching movies on them. but with a clean yosemite install on this laptop, my bluetooth audio lags and skips, and when i boot into my clean windows 8.1 install (with bootcamp 5.1.2) bt audio is just fine. ive tried every obscure method listed in this thread to try to fix it and nothing works. its not a hardware issue, its a software issue. which explains why so many people are complaining about it. come on apple, i shouldnt have to boot into windows for functionality on a mac.

I bought a bluetooth 4.0 USB Dongle, I had to run a Terminal command because the Mac was still looking for the internal Bluetooth board.
Could only have the keyboard connected with the headphones to prevent the audio stuttering problem, but the device connection speeds are like lightning.
If you purchase an external USB Bluetooth, type the following command followed by a restart:
sudo nvram bluetoothHostControllerSwitchBehaviour=always
To go back to default type the following, followed by a reboot:
sudo nvram -d bluetoothHostControllerSwitchBehavior

I have an macbook pro 2012 non retina 13 inch with dvd drive when my JBL Charge 2 is to close to my macbook pro it wil shutter when i place it say 10 -15 centimeters away from the laptop de connection doesnt shutter any more i am listening to itunes music trough the jbl charge 2 now while typing this and no music shutter or audio lag at all.

Have the same issue ever since the first developer preview. But for me this only happens in closed clamshell with an external display. If the lid is open then bluetooth audio is OK.
Updating to 10.10.1 seems to have fixed the issue for me. Just watched a 40-minute video, and am now listening to music – no lag or stuttering so far.
I joined the beta program, updated to 10.10.2 and it fixed my bluetooth speaker lag. Before it lagged a good second or so making movie watching unbearable. But now it seems to work.
Turn it off, then hold down Cmd+Option+P+R keys right after you've hit the power button to turn it on.
Updating to OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 has fixed the bluetooth audio lag issue with my Sennheiser MM 500-X headphones on my mid 2011 iMac and MacBook Air.
Same problem with my Plantronics BackBeat GO 2. The noise is so loud that it brakes my ear 😟. If you disconnect/reconnect the soundbecomes fine for some minutes then the problem happens again.
I was having the same issue. Major dropouts or lag.
I disabled handoff and bluetooth is working fine now.
It is under System Preferences->General->Allow Handoff....
LAG FIX: RESET THE PRAM HOLDING CMD+OPTION+P+R BEFORE OS STARTS, HOLD THEM UNTIL YOU HEAR THE OS CHIME. It worked for me. Hope it helps
hey guys, i have not had any bluetooth lag since i deactivated the dashboard. This really worked for me.
I also figured out how to reconnect the headphones after sleep: Safari must be quit and restarted, then it works again.
